  1. 16. Communication and Patient Safety : Transfer of information between healthcare personnel in anaesthetic clinics

    Author : Maria Randmaa; Maria Engström; Gunilla Mårtensson; Christine Leo Swenne; Hans Rutberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anaesthesiologist; anaesthetic clinic; communication; handover; incident reports; information transfer; interruption; memory; nurse; operating theatre; patient safety; post-anaesthesia care unit; safety attitudes; SBAR; Caring Sciences; Vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : Communication errors are frequent during the perioperative period and cause clinical incidents and adverse events. The overall aim of the thesis was to study communication – the transfer of information, especially the postoperative handover – between healthcare personnel in an anaesthetic clinic and the effects of using the communication tool SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) from a patient safety perspective. 3. 18. !secure(system) <=?=> !safe(system) : On Security and Safety of Industrial Software Systems

    Author : Marcus Lindner; Per Lindgren; Valeriy Vyatkin; Knut Åkesson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; embedded systems; hard real-time; concurrency; model of computation; safety-critical; safety; security; industrial automation; RTFM; real-time for the masses; Embedded Systems; Inbyggda system;

    Abstract : The focus of our research work is on readily accessible, embedded, real-time development with concurrency support. To this end, we develop the Real-Time For the Masses (RTFM) programming framework with a model of computation based on tasks and resources and that stipulates a timing semantics. READ MORE

  4. 19. Safety Reviews of Technical System Modifications in the Nuclear Industry

    Author : Thomas Falk; Sven-Ove Hansson; Teemu Reiman; KTH; []
    Keywords : safety; safety review; nuclear; nuclear power plant; process; process improvement; action research; experience feedback;

    Abstract : The function of safety reviews (here understood as expert judgements on proposals for design modifications and redesign of technical systems in commercial Nuclear Power Plants, supported by formalised safety review processes) plays a fundamental role for safety in nuclear installations. The primary aims of the presented case studies includes: critically examining and identifying the main areas for improvement of the existing technical safety review process as it is conducted at a Swedish nuclear power plant, developing a new process, and evaluating whether any improvements were accomplished. 5. 20. Industrial Safety: Principles for Safety Management based on Emperical Studies

    Author : Petra Willquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; safety analysis; method; risk; occupational safety; production; food industry; accidents; manufacturing;

    Abstract : Although safety management has developed considerably during the last decades, occupational accidents still contribute to work-related health problems worldwide. This thesis investigates occupational accidents in production environments, explores existing safety management and provides some insights into why it fails to function in a satisfactory manner.
