  1. 1. Dentine caries : acid tolerant microorganisms and aspects on collagen degradation

    Author : Anders Hedenbjörk Lager; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dental Caries; Collagen; Cariogenic Agents;

    Abstract : Karies är en stor folksjukdom, trots att den både kan förebyggas och behandlas effektivt. Om man inte ingriper preventivt och låter det naturliga förloppet råda, kommer kariesangreppet till slut att bryta igenom emaljen och involvera även den underliggande dentinvävnaden. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effect of Probiotics on Caries-related Variables

    Author : Sahal Alforaidi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial interference; ; Caries; Caries prevention; ; Dental biofilm; ; Dental plaque; ; Lactobacilli; Lactobacillus reuteri; ; Streptococcus mutans; ; Plaque acidogenicity; ; Probiotics; qPCR; Saliva; Virulence;

    Abstract : In relation to the caries disease, the aims of this thesis were to investigate the effect of probiotic drops on different caries-related variables in vivo (Papers I & III), on interference capability and genetic response to different metabolites in vitro (II) and systematically to review the best mode and dose of administration based on the examined oral outcomes (IV). The effects on colonisation and cariogenic bacteria were studied in plaque and saliva via plating and qPCR-analyses in teenagers and orthodontic patients after short-term exposure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dental caries and background factors in children with heart disease

    Author : Linda Rosén; Christina Stecksén-Blicks; Annika Rydberg; Göran Dahllöf; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; attitudes; caries; children; dental care; heart disease; medication; saliva; Paedodontics; Pedodonti; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Congenital heart disease (CHD) is one of the most common congenital anomalies with an incidence of approximately 8–10 cases per 1000 live births. Technical development and continuing improvement in surgical methods have led to early interventions and an increased survival and consequently also a new group of patients in dentistry. READ MORE

  4. 4. Xylitol and its effect on oral ecology : clinical studies in children and adolescents

    Author : Pernilla Lif Holgerson; Svante Twetman; Christina Stecksén-Blicks; Eva Söderling; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chewing gum; dental plaque; dose-response relationship; interdental plaque-pH; oral microorganisms; saliva; xylitol; Paedodontics; Pedodonti;

    Abstract : Xylitol, classified as a natural sugar substitute, has for about 35 years been known as an agent that may act against caries. The mechanism of action; how it inhibits mutans streptococci (MS) and the clinical dose-response relationship are not however fully investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Oral microbiota in relation to host traits, environment, and dental caries

    Author : Linda Eriksson; Pernilla Lif Holgerson; Ingegerd Johansson; Anders Esberg; Peter Lingström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dental caries; NGS; S. mutans; sugar; sweet; diet; taste preference; adolescents; allele variation; SLC2A4; microbiota; saliva; tooth biofilm; kariologi; Cariology;

    Abstract : Background: Dental caries still appears at high prevalence worldwide. Disease distribution is skewed with more disease in socio-economically weak groups. However, also in populations considered as “low caries” there is a significant fraction with continuous disease development. READ MORE
