  1. 1. The variability in Salix BVOC emissions and possible consequences for managed SRC plantations

    Author : Tomas Karlsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salix; BVOCs; varieties; age; branch chamber; leaf chambe; GC-MS; aerosols; Salix; BVOCs; varieties; age; branch chamber; leaf chamber; GC-MS; aerosols;

    Abstract : Willow (Salix spp.) trees have been used commercially since the 1980s to produce renewable energy. Some benefits with these trees are that they can clean soil from heavy metals, reduce the risk of nutrient leakage and eutrophication. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evolutionary history and chloroplast DNA variation in three plant genera: Betula, Corylus and Salix. : The impact of post-glacial colonisation and hybridisation

    Author : Anna Palmé; Andrew Lowe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; chloroplast DNA; phylogeography; hybridization; phylogeny; Salix caprea; Betula pendula; Corylus avellana; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; naturvårdsbiologi; Conservation Biology;

    Abstract : The great difference in the level of chloroplast variation and its geographic structure among the three main species studied here demonstrates that forest species do not form a homogeneous group. Hazel shows a genetic structure similar to many other thermophilous species and this structure, in combination with fossil evidence, indicates that the post-glacial colonisation of most of Europe originated in a refugium in western France while the Balkan and Italy were colonised from a south-eastern refugium. 3. 3. On The Big Challenges of a Small Shrub : Ecological Genetics of Salix herbacea L

    Author : Andrés J. Cortés; Karrenberg Sophie; Christian Lexer; John Pannell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fine-scale environmental variation; migration; adaptation; snowmelt timing; Biologi; Biology;

    Abstract : The response of plants to climate change is among the main questions in ecology and evolution. Faced with changing conditions, populations may respond by adapting, going extinct or migrating. Fine-scale environmental variation offers a unique mosaic to explore these alternatives. READ MORE

  4. 4. Initiation and histogenesis of adventitious roots in Salix clones

    Author : Ingemar Fjell; Stockholms universitet; []

  5. 5. Heavy metal tolerance, uptake, accumulation, and translocation in Salix and its application in phytoremediation

    Author : Tommy Landberg; Maria Greger; Nicholas Dickinson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant stress heavy metals Salix tolerance; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : In the environment, heavy metals are major stressors for plants, and since plants are immobile, they cannot avoid the stress but must adapt. Therefore, plants may develop avoidance and tolerance mechanisms to reduce susceptibility to metal toxicity. READ MORE
