  1. 1. Immunity to Salmonella infection

    Author : Cecilia Johansson; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; cytokines; antigen presentation; liver; dendritic cells; Salmonella; gram negative bacteria;

    Abstract : The immune system has several strategies to combat infections. The present study investigates various aspects of the interaction between Gram negative bacteria, particularly Salmonella, and antigen presenting cells (APC). Salmonella is an intracellular bacterium infecting mice and man. READ MORE

  2. 2. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12

    Author : Solveig Ravnum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Transational Control; Salmonella typhimurium; Vitamin B12; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 3. 3. Formation of Thiolated Nucleosides in tRNA in Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium

    Author : Hans Lundgren; Glenn Björk; Charles Lauhon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; : tRNA; modified nucleosides; thiolation; sulfur metabolism; Salmonella; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The presence and synthesis of transfer RNA (tRNA) is highly conserved in all organisms and a lot of genetic material is dedicated to its synthesis. tRNA contains a large number of modified nucleosides and several diverse functions have been found but much about their function is still unknown. 4. 4. Presentation of Salmonella antigens by dendritic cells

    Author : Ulf Yrlid; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; antigen processing and presentation; Dendritic cells; Salmonella; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This study investigates the interaction between dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative intracellular bacterium Salmonella typhimurium. Using in vitro and in vivo approaches, the capacity of DC to directly and indirectly present antigens from Salmonella-infected cells, cytokine production by infected DC, and activation of bacteria-specific T cells was analyzed.
