  1. 1. The pathophysiological roles of kynurenic acid and cytokines in psychiatric illness

    Author : Sara Olsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Kynurenic acid is an astrocyte-derived tryptophan metabolite and a marker of neuroinflammation that antagonizes N-metyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain. Increased levels have been found in the cerebrospinal (CSF) and brains of patients with schizophrenia and experimental studies have shown that kynurenic acid bi-directionally influences dopaminergic neurotransmission. 2. 2. Enhancing UV protection of clear coated exterior wood by reactive UV absorber and epoxy functional vegetable oil

    Author : Sara Olsson; Mats Johansson; Gilles Sèbe; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Since ancient times wood has played a large role in human activities, both in terms of fuel and for construction purposes. A drawback with wood in exterior applications is, however, its susceptibility to photo-initiated degradation, caused by radiation from the sun. READ MORE

  3. 3. Enhancing UV-protection of clear coated wood by utilizing reactive UV-absorber and epoxyfunctionalized soybean oil

    Author : Sara Olsson; Mats KG Johansson; Emma Östmark; Mats Westin; Philip Evans; Minna Hakkarainen; Peter Weissenborn; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-protaction; wood; clear coating; UV absorber; epoxy functionalized soybean oil; grafting;

    Abstract : This work presents the development of a new pretreatment for clear coated wood, that aims to increase the photoprotection of exterior wood products, and at the same time make the system more environmentally friendly. The pretreatment comprises the reactive UV absorber 2-hydroxy-4(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-benzophenone (HEPBP), which has a primary epoxy group that can be covalently attached to the hydroxyl groups of the wood substrate. 4. 4. ESR dosimetry in the radiation therapy dose range : development of dosimetry systems and sensitive dosimeter materials

    Author : Sara Olsson; Bartolomieij Ciesielski; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : ESR dosimetry with L-α-alanine as a dosimeter material is a well known and frequently used method for measuring high absorbed doses, for example at sterilisation and food irradiation. The increased sensitivity of modem spectrometers and an increased knowledge of the radiochemical properties of alanine have lowered the detection limit of ESR/alanine dosimetry to the dose range relevant for radiation therapy. 5. 5. Free radical dosimetry employing ESR spectroscopy for clinical use

    Author : Sara Olsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In all radiation therapy treatment it is important to thoroughly determine the absorbed dose in the tumour, in surrounding normal tissue and in risk organs. The dose distributions are usually calculated by means of computerised dose-planning systems. READ MORE
