  1. 1. Eel migration - results from tagging studies with relevance to management

    Author : Niklas B. Sjöberg; Sture Hansson; Håkan Wickström; Erik Petersson; Alan Walker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anguilla anguilla; Migration; Stocking; Marking; Anguillicola crassus; Data storage tags; Carlin tagging; Strontium; Survival analysis; Dormancy; Lake Mälaren; Baltic Sea; Atlantic Ocean; Sargasso Sea; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : In response to the drastic decline of the European eel (Anguilla anguilla (L.)) fisheries have been reduced and elvers are stocked in areas where natural abundances are low. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distribution and activity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria in marine and estuarine waters

    Author : Hanna Farnelid; Lasse Riemann; Jonathan Zehr; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 454-pyrosequencing; diazotrophs; heterotrophic bacteria; marine bacteria; marine microbial ecology; microbiology; nifH; nitrogenase; nitrogen fixation; PCR; qPCR; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In aquatic environments the availability of nitrogen (N) generally limits primary production. N2-fixing prokaryotes (diazotrophs) can convert N2 gas into ammonium and provide significant input of N into the oceans. Cyanobacteria are thought to be the main N2-fixers but diazotrophs also include a wide range of heterotrophic bacteria. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effect of environmental factors on bacterioplankton community composition, diversity and functionality

    Author : Johanna Sjöstedt; Lasse Riemann; Silke Langenheder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; functionality; environmental factors; disturbance; distribution; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Abstract : The ocean covers more than 70 % of the Earth surface and represents the largest ecosystem on Earth. Bacteria are an important part of the marine food web not only in remineralisation but also since they utilize dissolved organic matter (DOM) and make the energy available to higher trophic levels. 4. 4. MODEL STUDIES OF FISH EGG AND LARVAL TRANSPORT IN THE KATTEGAT AND THE NORTH ATLANTIC

    Author : Selma Pacariz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oceanography; Fisheries;

    Abstract : For the early life stages of fish, the dispersal and retention are important factors regarding present and future survivorship, growth and reproduction. The main objective of this thesis is to analyse fish egg and larval transport in two different marine systems, the Kattegat and the North Atlantic. READ MORE
