  1. 1. A Software-Defined Baseband for Satellite Ground Operations : Feasibility and Design

    Author : Moses Browne Mwakyanjala; Jaap van de Beek; Élcio Jeronimo de Oliviera; Jaan Praks; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Software-Defined Radios; Satellite Ground Operations; Satellite Telemetry; Command; and Tracking; Onboard space systems; Rymdtekniska system;

    Abstract : Satellite telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) is a crucial activity needed to maintainthe health of a spacecraft or sometimes to facilitate payload data download. TT&Cground operations are facilitated by a communication device known in the TT&C communityas a baseband. READ MORE

  2. 2. Space-Time Prediction of Ocean Winds

    Author : Anders Malmberg; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; operations research; image warping; thin-plate splines.; near-surface ocean winds; variogram parameters; Space-time Kalman filtering; real-time assimilation; residual wind speed; actuarial mathematics; programming; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is inspired by an experiment in which a vessel, laying a submarine cable, was provided with forecasts overlaid with satellite observations of significant wave height. During the operation, the vessel was close to an adverse weather area and the personnel on board could confirm that the forecast was not as close to the "ground truth" as the satellite observation was. 3. 3. Studies of cosmic rays with the anticoincidence system of the PAMELA satellite experiment

    Author : Silvio Orsi; Mark Pearce; Martin Pohl; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astrophysics; astroparticle physics; antimatter; organic scintillators; cosmic rays; trapped particles; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : PAMELA is a satellite-borne experiment designed to study the charged component of the cosmic radiation of galactic, solar and trapped nature. The main scientific objective is the study of the antimatter component of cosmic rays over a wide range of energies (antiprotons: 80 MeV–190 GeV, positrons: 50 MeV–270 GeV). READ MORE

  4. 4. Artificial Intelligence for Monitoring and Diagnosis of Robotic Spacecraft

    Author : David John Atkinson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; robot plan execution; NASA; ; software systems; artificial intelligence algorithms;

    Abstract : In this thesis the application of artificial intelligence to monitoring and diagnosis of robotic spacecraft is discussed. Several software prototype systems were developed to serve as testbeds for the research and to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach against real problems and current techniques used in NASA's planetary exploration program. 5. 5. Integration of remote sensing and ancillary data for geographical analysis and risk assessment of forest regeneration failures

    Author : Maj-Liz Nordberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The spatial distribution and size of forest regeneration areas are the basis for an analysis of where climatically unfavourable sites for forest regeneration are likely to occur if the area is clear felled. Knowledge about thermal variations is of interest in forestry, as avoidance of surface temperature extremes is important to regeneration success. READ MORE
