  1. 6. Atmospheric corrosion of zinc-aluminum and copper-based alloys in chloride-rich environments : Microstructure, corrosion initiation, patina evolution and metal release

    Author : Xian Zhang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Christofer Leygraf; Manuel Morcillo; KTH; []
    Keywords : atmospheric corrosion; chloride deposition; Zn-Al alloy coatings on steel microstructure; Cu sheet and Cu alloys; microstructure; corrosion initiation; corrosion product evolution; metal release; SEM; IRAS; CRM.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Fundamental understanding of atmospheric corrosion mechanisms requires an in-depth understanding on the dynamic interaction between corrosive constituents and metal/alloy surfaces. This doctoral study comprises field and laboratory investigations that assess atmospheric corrosion and metal release processes for two different groups of alloys exposed in chloride-rich environments. 2. 7. High resolution electrical characterization of III-V materials and devices

    Author : Olivier Douheret; Srinivasan Anand; Wilfried Vandervorst; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; condensed matter; electrics; electrical; materials science; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : The continuing shrinkage of semiconductor devices towards nanoscale features and increased functionality has prompted a strong need for high-resolution characterization tools capable of mapping the electrical properties with nanoscale lateral resolution. In this regard, scanning capacitance microscopy (SCM) scanning spreading resistance microscopy (SSRM) and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) have emerged as powerful techniques. READ MORE

  3. 8. Use of local electrochemical techniques for corrosion studies of stainless steels

    Author : Nuria Fuertes; Rachel Pettersson; Mari Sparr; Ulf Kivisäkk; Yolanda Hedberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stainless steel; passive film; thermal oxides; work function; pickling; SKPFM; SVET; XPS; AES; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The excellent corrosion resistance of stainless steels arises from the presence of a passive film on its surface. Above 10.5wt% Cr a chromium oxide of 1-3 nm is formed on the surface of the metal that in case of damage will reform and hinder further dissolution of the metal. READ MORE

  4. 9. An Experimental Study to Understand the Localized Corrosion and Environment-Assisted Cracking Behavior of AISI 420-Martensitic Stainless Steel

    Author : Krishnan Hariramabadran Anantha; Jinshan Pan; Robert Akid; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Motivation and aim: Currently steel molds are designed with cooling channels to reduce the solidification time of molten plastic within the mold to improve the productivity. As water is generally used as the cooling medium, corrosion and environment-assisted cracking (EAC) leading towards the dysfunction of mold, can increase the production downtime. READ MORE

  5. 10. Mechanistic studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys by high resolution in-situ and ex-situ probing techniques

    Author : Ali Davoodi; Jinshan Pan; Gerald S. Frankel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; localized corrosion; pitting; aluminum alloy; intermetallic particle; Volta potential; cathodic activity; micro-galvanic effect; size dependence; SKPFM; in-situ AFM; integrated AFM SECM; numerical simulation; micrometer resolution; EIS.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : A multi-analytical approach based on in-situ and ex-situ local probing techniques was employed to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of some aluminum alloys in chloride containing solutions, focusing on the influence of intermetallic particles (IMPs) in the alloys. In the EN AW-3003 alloy, SEM-EDS analysis revealed constituent and dispersoid IMPs. READ MORE
