    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaplastic lymphoma kinase; Receptor tyrosine kinase; Jeb; neuroblastoma; actin polymerization; Wasp; Scar; Vrp1; Arp2 3; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Clinical genetics Molecular biology; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Klinisk genetik Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) is a Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTK) and an oncogene associated with several human diseases, but its normal function in humans and other vertebrates is unclear. Drosophila melanogaster has an ALK homolog, demonstrating that the RTK has been conserved throughout evolution. READ MORE

  3. 3. To scar or not to scar : origin and function of fibrotic tissue in the central nervous system

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Cell and Molecular Biology

    Author : David Oliveira Dias; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2019]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : After injury, the adult mammalian central nervous system lacks long-distance axon regeneration, and insufficient repair results in the formation of a multicellular and compartmentalized scar. A great body of work has been dedicated to the study of the glial component of the scar, while the fibrotic lesion core has received less attention. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrocardiographic characterization of myocardial scar in presence of conduction abnormality

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Molecular Medicine and Surgery

    Author : Björn Wieslander; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Presence, extent and localization of myocardial scar constitute prognostic clinical information that can influence therapeutical decisions. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging with late gadolinium enhancement (CMR-LGE) is the preferred method to image myocardial scar in vivo but is resource intensive and has contraindications. 5. 5. Long-term outcome of lumbar disc herniation surgery. Studies on different influencing factors

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Molecular Medicine and Surgery

    Abstract : Background: A majority of patients suffering from sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation experience a positive natural history and respond well to non-surgical treatment. Patients who fail conservative treatment and are treated surgically have been reported to get satisfactory result in about 70-90% in short-term (1-2 year) follow-up. READ MORE
