  1. 1. DIGIROP prediction models for severe retinopathy of prematurity

    Author : Aldina Pivodic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preterm birth; retinopathy of prematurity; prediction models; screening; clinical decision support tool;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a preventable, potentially blinding eye disease, is primarily diagnosed in extremely preterm infants. Gestational age (GA) and birth weight (BW) are the most prominent risk factors. Routine ROP examinations are performed to identify the low proportion of infants who progress to needing treatment. 2. 2. Screening for Cardiovascular Risk and Diabetes in Primary Health Care : The Söderåkra Risk Factor Screening Study

    Author : Ulla Petersson; Peter Nilsson; Carl Johan Östgren; Lars Brudin; Lars Weinehall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the predominant cause of morbidity and mortality for many decades in Sweden. Preventive work in primary health care through individual approach and community-based programmes has shown some success. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of Gestational Diabetes : Screening System, Maternal and Fetal Complications

    Author : Ingrid Östlund; Peter Damm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Gestational diabetes; screening; preeclampsia; random B-glucose; impaired glucose tolerance; macrosomia; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Abstract : The appropriateness of universal screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been strongly questioned, since it does not satisfy ethical principles for screening. The aims of these studies were to determine the prevalence of GDM, expressed in terms of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus (DM), to evaluate different screening models using traditional anamnestic risk factors and repeated random B-glucose, to determine whether GDM increases risks for maternal complications such as preeclampsia, and to determine whether IGT during pregnancy, if left untreated, is associated with increased maternal or neonatal morbidity. 4. 4. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Author : Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimized use of MRI in a PSA based prostate cancer screening program

    Author : Jonas Wallström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; prostate cancer; screening;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to optimize different aspects of the use of MRI in screening for prostate cancer. Paper 1 was based on preoperative MRI in a prostatectomy cohort. READ MORE
