  1. 1. Semantic Web Queries over Scientific Data

    Author : Andrej Andrejev; Tore Risch; Kjell Orsborn; Ruslan Fomkin; Gerhard Weikum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RDF; SPARQL; Arrays; Query optimization; Second-order functions; Scientific workflows; Datavetenskap med inriktning mot databasteknik; Computer Science with specialization in Database Technology;

    Abstract : Semantic Web and Linked Open Data provide a potential platform for interoperability of scientific data, offering a flexible model for providing machine-readable and queryable metadata. However, RDF and SPARQL gained limited adoption within the scientific community, mainly due to the lack of support for managing massive numeric data, along with certain other important features – such as extensibility with user-defined functions, query modularity, and integration with existing environments and workflows. 2. 2. Perspectives on Modeling and Simulation of Urban Systems with Multiple Actors and Subsystems

    Author : Elhabib Moustaid; Sebastiaan Meijer; Gunnar Flötteröd; S Rajagopalan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Simulation Modeling; Urban Systems; Expert Knowledge; Complexity Science; Mathematical Modeling; Second Order Effects.; Simulering och modellering; urbana system; expertkunskap; Komplexitetsvetenskap; matematisk modellering; andra graden effekt; Teknik och hälsa; Technology and Health;

    Abstract : Cities are the spaces of the interaction between social, physical, political, and economic entities, which makes planning and intervening in such systems difficult. Urban systems are complex adaptive systems in that their behaviours are often the result of the interaction of their components. READ MORE

  3. 3. Obstacle Problems for Green Potentials and for Parabolic Quasiminima

    Author : Catarina Petersson; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Functions; differential equations; Funktioner; differentialekvationer; Matematik; degenerate parabolic operators; Mathematics; quasiminima; obstacle problems; Green potentials;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of two parts. In the first part pure potential theoretic methods are employed to study the obstacle problem connected with a uniformly elliptic second-order differential operator in divergence form. Regular points of the obstacles are characterized by the classical Wiener criterion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Turbulence Modelling of Flows Related to Wall-Cooling Applications

    Author : Stefan Jansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-Reynolds number models; second-order-moment closures; turbulent heat transfer; two-equation models; film-cooling; near-wall models; turbulence modelling;

    Abstract : Engineering flows are generally characterised by complex strain field and turbulence structure arising from a combination of shear, curvature, separation and recirculation etc. Under such flow conditions, transport by turbulent velocity fluctuations can make a significant contribution to the transport of momentum, heat and mass. 5. 5. Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms

    Author : Tobias Fahleson; Patrick Norman; Daniel Crawford; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical spectroscopy; cubic response theory; damped response theory; magnetic circular dichroism; linear birefringence; two-photon absorption; TPA; resonant-inelastic x-ray scattering; RIXS; DALTON program; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis is titled ’Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms’ and was written by Tobias Fahleson at the Division of Theoretical Chemistry & Biology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. It explores and expands upon theoretical means of quantifying a number of nonlinear spectroscopies, including two-photon absorption, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, Jones birefringence, and magnetic circular dichroism.
