  1. 1. Signal Transduction of Glucagon Secretion

    Author : Elaine Vieira; Erik Gylfe; Lena Eliasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; secretion; glucagon; store-operated channels; calcium; diabetes; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a bihormonal disorder with hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin and hypersecretion of glucagon. To improve diabetes treatment it is important to clarify the signal transduction of glucagon secretion. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assembly and Secretion of Atherogenic Lipoproteins

    Author : Caroline Beck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : very low-density lipoprotein; ; apolipoprotein B100; ; B-cell receptor associated; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; ; secretion; assembly;

    Abstract : The classical dyslipidemia seen in patients with type 2 diabetes is characterized by elevated serum triglycerides (TG), low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the appearance of small, dense low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is now recognized that the different components of diabetic dyslipidemia are not isolated abnormalities but are closely linked to each other metabolically, and are initiated by the hepatic overproduction of large triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL1). 3. 3. The Duodenal Mucosal Bicarbonate Secretion : Role of Melatonin in Neurohumoral Control and Cellular Signaling

    Author : Markus Sjöblom; Gunnar Flemström; Olof Nylander; Karl EO Åkerman; Per M. Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; alkaline secretion; central nervous system; duodenal enterocyte; duodenal ulcer; duodenum; enterochromaffin cell; human; intraarterial; intracellular calcium; intracerebroventricular; melatonin; rat; vagal nerve; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The duodenal lumen is exposed to aggressive factors with a high potential to cause damage to the mucosa. Bicarbonate secretion by the duodenal mucosa is accepted as the primary important defense mechanism against the hydrochloric acid intermittently expelled from the stomach. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cellular transport and secretion of the cyanobacterial neurotoxin BMAA into milk and egg : Implications for developmental neurotoxicity

    Author : Marie Andersson; Ingvar Brandt; Cynthia de Wit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BMAA; beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine; milk; secretion; amino acid transporter; autoradiography; metabolism; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Abstract : The cyanobacterial amino acid β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxin implicated in the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases. Cyanobacteria are cosmopolitan organisms present in various environments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pancreatic Growth and Secretion. An Experimental Study on Growth Factors in Rat and Mouse

    Author : Claes Hjalmarsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; PBD; insulin; B-cells; bile; pancreatic cancer; intestine; secretion; pancreas; proliferation; tyrphostins; CCK; epidermal growth factor; transforming growth factor alpha; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : The pancreas is a central organ in the digestion of food as well as in glucose metabolism. Its two major functions are exocrine and endocrine secretion. READ MORE
