  1. 16. Influence of resuspension on sediment-water solute exchange and particle transport in marine environments

    Author : Elin Almroth Rosell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resuspension; benthic fluxes; oxygen; dissolved inorganic carbon; nutrients; dissolved iron and manganese; in situ chambers; benthic lander; organic matter transport; ecological modeling; Gothenburg Archipelago; Gulf of Finland; Baltic Sea; Loch Creran; Scotland;

    Abstract : Marine sediments contain a large pool of nutrients, which if released would contribute to increased eutrophication, in spite of decreased nutrient loads from land and atmosphere. Resuspension is a process, which might influence the release of nutrients from the sediment to the overlying water. READ MORE

  2. 17. 3-D numerical modeling of flow and sediment transport in rivers

    Author : Muluneh Admass; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; River model; ECOMSED model; River Klarälven; Bed load transport model; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The fully integrated 3-D, time dependant, hydrodynamic and sediment transport numerical model ECOMSED was used to simulate flow and sediment transport in rivers. ECOMSED was originally developed for large water bodies such as lakes and oceans and solves the primitive equations of RANS along with a second order turbulence model in an orthogonal curvilinear σ- coordinate system. 3. 18. Long-term beach and dune evolution : Development and application of the CS-model

    Author : Caroline Hallin; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Coastal processes; sediment transport; numerical modelling; Ängelholm Beach; Kennemer Dunes;

    Abstract : Coastal flooding and erosion are worldwide problems that are further aggravated by rising sea levels and increasing population densities in coastal areas. In many of those areas, sandy beaches and dunes protect thehinterland from waves and extreme water levels during storms, while providing natural and recreational values. READ MORE

  4. 19. Long-Term Simulation of Coastal Evolution

    Author : Hoan Le Xuan; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tidal inlet; inlet shoal; sediment transport; spit growth; shoreline change; spit model; inlet model; mathematical model; numerical model; shoreline model;

    Abstract : There is a strong relationship between regional sediment transport and the local processes at tidal inlets and around coastal structures. Many coastal projects require quantitative understanding of these processes and the interactions between them. READ MORE

  5. 20. Local and global contaminants in Swedish waters : studies on PCBs, DDTs, 4,5,6-trichloroguaiacol and their transformation products in fish and sediments

    Author : Maria Söderström; Åke Bergman; Bert van Bavel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCB; DDT; HCB; trichloroguaiacol; transformation products; dimerisation; bromination; environmental pollutants; eutrophication; lakes; fresh water; baltic sea; monitoring; sediments; fish; phytoplankton; PCB; DDT; HCB; triklorguajakol; omvandlingsprodukter; dimerisering; bromering; miljöföroreningar; eutrofiering; sjöar; sötvatten; östersjön; miljöövervakning; sediment; fisk; fytoplankton; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on studies on the environmental fate and methodological improvements for determination of the global contaminants, PCBs and DDTs, and locally discharged phenolics, e.g. 4,5,6-trichloroguaiacol (4,5,6-TCG), and their transformation products. READ MORE
