  1. 16. On the role of morphometry in coastal ecosystem modelling and management

    Author : Johan Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Abstract : Many signs show that the Baltic Sea is increasingly eutrophicated. Primary production hasincreased significantly resulting in gradually decreasing deep water oxygen concentrationsduring the twentieth century. In the coastal zone, problems are often manifested as oxygendepletion resulting in extinction of macrobenthic fauna. READ MORE

  2. 17. Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River region, northwest Poland

    Author : Gert Pettersson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary Geology; Kvartärgeologi; Geology; Geologi; Vistulian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; Poland; Chodziez; Clast lithology; Clast fabrics; Deglaciation; Ice stream; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; geomorphology; klimatologi; geomorfologi; climatology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results of studies on the ice flow pattern and ice movement mechanism during the Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River area, NW Poland. A new lithostratigraphy of the study area has been established, based on correlation of stratigraphical position, clast lithology, fabrics and grain size composition of till units. READ MORE

  3. 18. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Author : Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Abstract : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. READ MORE

  4. 19. Problems of stratigraphic correlation across the Arctic Ocean

    Author : Emma Sellén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi;

    Abstract : Published articles on Arctic Ocean sedimentation rates generally falls into two categories; one suggesting mm/ka-scale sedimentation rates in the Amerasian Basin and the other cm/ka-scale rates in the Eurasian Basin. This is due to the interpretation of the first measured paleomagnetic polarity change in sediment cores as either the Brunhes-Matuyama (781 ka) reversal or as the short time magnetic excursion, Biwa II (220 ka) within the Brunhes Chron. 5. 20. Quaternary paleoceanography of the Arctic Ocean : A study of sediment stratigraphy and physical properties

    Author : Emma Sellén; Martin Jakobsson; Jan Backman; Dorthe Klitgaard-Kristensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; sedimentology; Quaternary; stratigraphy; physical properties; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Abstract : A Quaternary perspective on the paleoceanographic evolution of the central Arctic Ocean has been obtained in this PhD thesis by studying sediment cores from all of the Arctic’s major submarine ridges and plateaus. The included cores were mainly recovered during the Healy-Oden Trans-Arctic expedition in 2005 and the Lomonosov Ridge off Greenland expedition in 2007. READ MORE
