1. Biomass Pre-treatment for the Production of Sustainable Energy : Emissions and Self-ignition
Abstract : Organic emissions with focus on terpenes, from biomass drying and storage were investigated by Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and GC-FID and GC-MS. The remaining terpenes in the biomass (Spruce and pine wood chips) after drying were dependant on the drying temperature and drying medium used. READ MORE

2. Spark Ignition Combustion of Direct Injected Alternative Fuels
Abstract : Several technologies and modifications exist to increase the fuel efficiency of passenger vehicles in general and spark ignition engines in particular. Combining a spark ignition engine with an electric drive system in hybrid powertrain and thermodynamic cycle improvements are two such approaches with the potential to greatly reduce fuel consumption. 3. A Study of Catalytic Ignition and Kinetic Phase Transitions
Abstract : Catalytic ignition and kinetic phase transitions are two critical phenomena which can occur in heterogeneously catalyzed reaction systems. They have in common that the system behavior changes qualitatively when a control parame-ter passes through a critical value. READ MORE

4. Seasonal and Long-Term Storage of Baled Municipal Solid Waste
Abstract : Baling of MSW has been extensively used in Sweden and other countries for the storage of energy (biomass for energy) for incineration and production of either and or electricity and heat. Baling is performed in two principally different ways, leading to cylindrical- or rectangular bales. READ MORE

5. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts
Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations.
