21. Adsorption of molecular thin films on metal and metal oxide surfaces
Abstract : Metal and metal oxides are widely used in industry, and to optimize their performance their surfaces are commonly functionalized by the formation of thin films. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are deposited on metals or metal oxides either from solution or by gas deposition. READ MORE

22. Bioactive monolayers and thin films for biomedical applications
Abstract : This thesis includes two projects. The first one is a study of organic molecular self assembled monolayers designed to promote selective protein adsorption processes. READ MORE

23. Advanced polymeric scaffolds for functional materials in biomedical applications
Abstract : Advancements in the biomedical field are driven by the design of novel materials with controlled physical and bio-interactive properties. To develop such materials, researchers rely on the use of highly efficient reactions for the assembly of advanced polymeric scaffolds that meet the demands of a functional biomaterial. READ MORE

24. Design and synthesis of glycose-derivatives and related molecules for cell membrane mimetics
Abstract : A series of glucopyranose (α-D-glucose, β-D-glucose, D-gluconic acid and 6-amino-6-deoxy-D-glocuse) terminated alkanethiol acetals have been successfully synthesized. α and β-D-glucose were configured in controlled ways coupling with alkanethiol, in which bromosugar and trichloroacetirnidates were selected as activated glycosyl donors using different promoters tetraalkylammonium bromide (Et4NBr) and trimethylsilanetriflate (TMSOTf) respectively. 25. Imaging surface plasmon resonance
Abstract : The central theme of this thesis is the use of imaging Surface Plasmon Resonance (iSPR) as a tool in the characterization of surfaces with laterally varying properties. Within the scope of this work, an instrument for iSPR analysis was designed and built. READ MORE
