  1. 1. Reproductive function in young Swedish men - Time trend, prenatal and adult exposure to smoking and phthalates

    Author : Jonatan Axelsson; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Semen analysis; maternal exposure; paternal exposure; smoking; phthalate;

    Abstract : A decrease in male reproductive function, including sperm counts, during the second half of the 20th century, has been postulated. During this period, testicular cancer has increased several-fold. Environmental and lifestyle-related factors have been proposed as explanations for a possible negative trend in male reproductive function. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biochemical Studies of Semenogelins with Emphasis on Zinc-Binding Properties

    Author : Magnus Jonsson; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sexualitet; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduction; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; gel-forming proteins; surface plasmon resonance; prostate-specific antigen; protein C inhibitor; seminal plasma; zinc; semen; semenogelin; reproduktion;

    Abstract : Semenogelins I and II (SgI and SgII) are homologous and rapidly evolving proteins that have a repetitive primary structure and are synthesized mainly in the seminal vesicles. Upon ejaculation, a gelatinous coagulum is formed when the semenogelin-rich secretion from the seminal vesicles is mixed with the prostate secretion, which contains high concentrations of zinc(II) and proteases. 3. 3. Analysis of Nucleotide Variations in Non-human Primates

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Rönn; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Mats Nilsson; Phillip Morin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular genetics; SNP; genotyping; primate; chimpanzee; whole genome amplification; multiple displacement amplification; minisequencing; microarray; Y-chromosome; mitochondria; Genetik;

    Abstract : Many of our closest relatives, the primates, are endangered and could be extinct in a near future. To increase the knowledge of non-human primate genomes, and at the same time acquire information on our own genomic evolution, studies using high-throughput technologies are applied, which raises the demand for large amounts of high quality DNA. Abstract : Infertility, defined as the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected regular intercourse, affects up to 15% of all couples of reproductive age. The infertility can originate from female, male or both partners. In up to 50% of the affected couples, a male factor is the cause of infertility. READ MORE

  5. 5. EXPOSURE TO PERSISTENT ORGANOCHLORINE POLLUTANTS AND MALE SEMEN FUNCTION

    Author : Anna Rignell-Hydbom; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []

    Abstract : Persistent organochlorine pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and the insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-dichloro-ethylene (DDT) have been released into the environment mainly since the second World War. POPs accumulate especially in highly ranked predators of the aquatic food chain. READ MORE
