  1. 11. High Speed Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers for Short Reach Communication

    Author : Petter Westbergh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high speed modulation; GaAs; Semiconductor laser; InGaAs; vertical cavity surface emitting laser VCSEL ; laser dynamics; fabrication;

    Abstract : The vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is a low cost light source with attractive performance characteristics such as low power consumption, high speed capabilities at low currents, and a circular output beam. These features have made the VCSEL an established component in digital communication networks, particularly in short reach optical data transmission applications where links consisting of GaAs-based 850nm VCSELs and multimode fiber have become the standard solution. 2. 12. VCSEL Cavity Engineering for High Speed Modulation and Silicon Photonics Integration

    Author : Emanuel Haglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed modulation; on-chip laser source; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser VCSEL ; semiconductor lasers; optical interconnects; large signal modulation; laser dynamics; heterogeneous integration; vertical-cavity silicon-integrated laser VCSIL ; silicon photonics;

    Abstract : The GaAs-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is the standard light source in today's optical interconnects, due to its energy efficiency, low cost, and high speed already at low drive currents. The latest commercial VCSELs operate at data rates of up to 28 Gb/s, but it is expected that higher speeds will be required in the near future. READ MORE

  3. 13. Metamorphic Heterostructures and Lasers on GaAs

    Author : Ivar Tångring; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic heterostructures; InGaAs quantum well; graded buffer layer; Semiconductor laser; GaAs; molecular beam epitaxy; telecom laser;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the metamorphic growth of heterostructure lasers on GaAs substrates. Many heterostructure devices have their performance limited by the need to grow on lattice-matched substrates. READ MORE

  4. 14. Exploring Organic Dyes for Grätzel Cells Using Time-Resolved Spectroscopy

    Author : Ahmed M. El-Zohry; Burkhard Zietz; Ana Morandeira; Leif Hammarström; Eric Vauthey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Laser spectroscopy; DSSCs; DSC; Electron dynamics; Deactivation processes; Isomerization; Twisting; TICT; Quenching by protons; Semiconductor; Electrolyte; Electron injection; Regeneration; Recombination; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Grätzel cells or Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) are considered one of the most promising methods to convert the sun's energy into electricity due to their low cost and simple technology of production. The Grätzel cell is based on a photosensitizer adsorbed on a low band gap semiconductor. READ MORE

  5. 15. Design and fabrication of long wavelength vertical cavity lasers on GaAs substrates

    Author : Rickard Marcks von Würtemberg; Mattias Hammar; Markus Amann; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; VCSEL; Selective Area Epitaxy; Epitaxial regrowth; Laser; Semiconductor physics; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) are today a commodity on the short wavelength laser market due to the ease with which they are manufactured. Much effort has in the last decade been directed towards making long wavelength VCSELs as successful in the marketplace. READ MORE
