6. Semiconductor Nanowires: Epitaxy and Applications
Abstract : Semiconductor nanowires are nanoscale objects formed by bottom-up synthesis. In recent years their unique properties have been exploited in fields such as electronics, photonics, sensors and the life sciences. In this work, the epitaxial growth of nanowires and their applications were studied. READ MORE

7. Selective Epitaxy of Indium Phosphide and Heteroepitaxy of Indium Phosphide on Silicon for Monolithic Integration
Abstract : A densely and monolithically integrated photonic chip on indium phosphide is greatly in need for data transmission but the present day’s level of integration in InP is very low. Silicon enjoys a unique position among all the semiconductors in its level of integration. READ MORE

8. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Abstract : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

9. Thermoelectric phenomena in low-dimensional semiconductor systems
Abstract : This thesis investigates thermoelectric effects, predominantly in low-dimensional semiconductors. Various novel phenomena are predicted, investigated and discussed. READ MORE

10. First Principles Calculations of Electron Transport and Structural Damage by Intense Irradiation
Abstract : First principle electronic structure theory is used to describe the effect of crystal binding on radiation detectors, electron transport properties, and structural damage induced by intense irradiation. A large database containing general electronic structure results to which data mining algorithms can be applied in the search for new functional materials, a case study is presented for scintillator detector materials.
