  1. 16. Phosphatidylethanol - formation and degradation in blood and organs

    Author : Steina Aradottir; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostik; Public health; Diagnostics; organs; blood; HPLC; in vitro; in vivo; human; rat; phosphatidylethanol; phospholipase D; alcohol; ethanol; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi;

    Abstract : Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an abnormal phospholipid formed exclusively by the action of phospholipase D (PLD) in the presence of ethanol. The degradation of PEth is slow and due to its accumulation in some cells the possibility to use PEth as marker of ethanol intake has been proposed. READ MORE

  2. 17. On the way of making plants smell like moths - a synthetic biology approach

    Author : Bao-Jian Ding; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; moth pheromone; transcriptome; fatty acyl desaturase; fatty acyl reductase; acetyltransferase; chain shortening; chain elongation; heterologous expression; synthetic biology; plant expression;

    Abstract : Moth caterpillars are major agricultural pests in many parts of the world. In general female moths attract male mates with their pheromone over long distance. Most of the described moth pheromones belong to the same class of chemical compounds, fatty acid derivatives that are produced de novo in the pheromone gland. READ MORE

    Abstract : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. READ MORE
