  1. 1. Sensorimotor function in chronic neck pain : objective assessments and a novel method for neck coordination exercise

    Author : Ulrik Röijezon; Mats Djupsjöbacka; Martin Björklund; Charlotte Häger-Ross; Dario Liebermann; Mikael Karlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neck pain; Whiplash; Sensorimotor; Motor Control; Motor Learning; Neck Coordination Exercise; Postural Control; Cervical kinematics; Reliability.; Community medicine; Samhällsmedicin; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Abstract : Chronic neck pain is a widespread problem that causes individual suffering as well as large costs for the society. The knowledge about the pathophysiology is poor and therefore specific diagnosis and causal treatment are rare. READ MORE

  2. 2. To grip and not to slip : sensorimotor mechanisms in reactive control of grasp stability

    Author : Charlotte Häger Ross; Roland S. Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; hand; precision grip; grasp force; friction; cutaneous mechanoreceptors; sensorimotor integration; motor control;

    Abstract : The reactive control of fingertip forces maintaining grasp stability was examined in man during a prehensile task. Blindfolded subjects used the precision grip between the tips of index finger and thumb to restrain an object that was subjected to unpredictable load forces. These were delivered tangential to the parallel grip surfaces of the object. READ MORE

  3. 3. Altered movement patterns and deviating muscular activity in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament injury

    Author : Anna Trulsson; Fysioterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Movement pattern; Physiotherapy; Motor control; Sensorimotor control; Neuromuscular control; Anterior cruciate ligament; Muscular activity; Motor skills; Single leg squat; Electromyography EMG ; Postural orientation; Assessment; Task performance; Reproducibility of findings; Performance test; Hop test; knee; dynamic joint stability;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to increase the understanding of altered movement patterns in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in order to improve ACL rehabilitation, and to develop an observational instrument termed Test for Substitution Patterns (TSP) for standardized, quantifiable scoring of altered movement patterns in legs and trunk. In all, 142 participants, 93 with ACL-rupture (37 women) and 49 uninjured participants were investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cursed complexity. Computational properties of subcortical neuronal microcircuitry in sensorimotor control

    Author : Anton Spanne; Hjärnans sensorimotoriska funktioner; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; spike firing statistics; spontaneous activity; sensorimotor control; tactile processing; cuneate nucleus; sparse coding; spinal border cells; cerebellum;

    Abstract : One of the big obstacles for understanding the nervous system is its inherent complexity. It poses problems when interpreting both experimental and theoretical studies since we are currently forced to consider only reduced variants of the actual circuitry of the brain. READ MORE

    Abstract : The ability to obtain correct balance control information and adjust motor performance appropriately are essential elements in effective postural control. However, functional disorders may affect the reliability of receptor information and ability to carry out corrective motions needed to maintain balance. READ MORE
