  1. 1. Genetic control of sensory neuron diversification

    Author : Marina C M Franck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The somatosensory system of vertebrates transmits information from external and internal environments to the brain. This information relates to various modalities such as touch, temperature, itch and pain. The different modalities require a variety of subtypes of sensory neurons, tuned to detect and transmit specific stimuli. READ MORE

  2. 2. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    Author : Lina Pettersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Abstract : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 3. 3. Role of transcription factors in sensory neuron specification

    Author : Andreas Montelius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The interface between our mind and the internal and external environments is the peripheral nervous system. A range of different sensory neuron subtypes detects cold, heat, pain, touch, and other stimuli. READ MORE

  4. 4. A sensory role for the cruciate ligaments : regulation of joint stability via reflexes onto the γ-muscle-spindle system

    Author : Per Sjölander; Håkan Johansson; Uwe Windhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Joint afferent; Mechanoreceptor; Cruciate ligament; Fusimotor neuron; reflex; muscle spindle afferent; motor control; cat;

    Abstract : Reflex effects evoked by graded electrical stimulation of the posterior articular nerves (PAN) of the ipsi- and contralateral knee joints were investigated using both micro-electrode recordings from 7 - motoneurones and recordings from single muscle muscle spindle afferents. Spindle afferent responses were also recorded using natural stimulation of different types of receptors, to elucidate if the articular reflexes onto the y -motoneurones were potent enough to significantly alter the muscle spindle afferent activity. 5. 5. Mechanisms of Olfactory sensory neuron class maintenance in Drosophila : It is all about design and equilibrium

    Author : Shadi Jafari; Mattias Alenius; Stefan Thor; David Engblom; Bassem Hassan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : How the cellular diversity of our body is generated and maintained is still a great mystery regardless of the wealth of research that has been done on this issue. The greatest complexity is found in the nervous system that contains a vast number of neurons and displays a great diversity in cell types and classes. READ MORE
