  1. 1. Hyaluronan receptors of liver endothelial cells, their purification and characterisation

    Author : Peter A. G. McCourt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; hyaluronan; scavenger receptors; ICAM-1; liver endothelial cells; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Hyaluronan (HA) is a polysaccharide common throughout the connective tissues. and is found at low concentrations in the blood. The major site of its clearance is via an endocytic receptor on liver endothelial cells (LEC). This process is vital, as excessive serum levels of HA lead to clotting disorders and overly viscous blood. READ MORE

  2. 2. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins

    Author : Karol Axcrona; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear transport; bacterial Ig-binding proteins; CD40L promoter; CD21; Ig; B lymphocyte activation in vitro; CD40; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation, structure and function of glutathione reductase and its transcriptional regulator NtcA from the cyanobacterium Anabaena PCC 7120

    Author : Fanyi Jiang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Glutathione reductase (GR) is an important antioxidant enzyme in all aerobic life. Theenzyme was purified from cyanobacterium Anabaena PCC 7120 and overexpressed inEscherichia coli. It has physicochemical and kinetic properties similar to GR fromother sources, but unique features in the pyridine nucleotide-binding site. READ MORE

  4. 4. Beta-Lactamase in Haemophilus ducreyi: Purification, Characterization, and Mutagenesis

    Author : Ratana Lawung; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; enzyme calorimeter; site-directed mutagenesis; ampicillin resistance plasmid; Haemophilus ducreyi; TEM-1 b-lactamase; metabolism; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Chancroid caused by Haemophilus ducreyi, has been described as a significantly predisposing factor of HIV heterosexual transmission in an endemic region of both diseases. Antibiotic resistances are extensively found in H. ducreyi and many of the resistances are due to the presence of resistance plasmids. READ MORE

  5. 5. Isolation and characterization of glutathione S-transferases from various animal sources

    Author : Claes Guthenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the present investigation several forms of glutathione S-transferase were found in preparations of rat liver, rat lung, adult human liver, fetal human liver and whole earthworms. Human placenta, however, appeared to contain only one form of glutathione S-transferase. READ MORE
