16. Multi-Layered User Interface Design
Abstract : In this thesis work we focus on further developing and redefining an interface design concept especially adapted to consider the needs and the knowledge level of many individual users, at once taking the tasks they perform and their learning into careful consideration. The design concept, called Multi-Layered Design (or a Level-structured approach, sometimes even called a spiral approach), was first suggested by Ben Schneiderman in 1998 and then further explored during 1999 to 2003. 17. Product Information Quality : A sustainability challenge in design and construction
Abstract : The adverse consequences of building product performance pose sustainability problems for the built environment. Effective approaches to these problems require a clear understanding of building product information and its provision by manufacturers. READ MORE

18. Benefits of Non-Linear Mixed Effect Modeling and Optimal Design : Pre-Clinical and Clinical Study Applications
Abstract : Despite the growing promise of pharmaceutical research, inferior experimentation or interpretation of data can inhibit breakthrough molecules from finding their way out of research institutions and reaching patients. This thesis provides evidence that better characterization of pre-clinical and clinical data can be accomplished using non-linear mixed effect modeling (NLMEM) and more effective experiments can be conducted using optimal design (OD). 19. Unequal Probability Sampling in Active Learning and Traffic Safety
Abstract : This thesis addresses a problem arising in large and expensive experiments where incomplete data come in abundance but statistical analyses require collection of additional information, which is costly. Out of practical and economical considerations, it is necessary to restrict the analysis to a subset of the original database, which inevitably will cause a loss of valuable information; thus, choosing this subset in a manner that captures as much of the available information as possible is essential. 20. Redesign of Alpha Class Glutathione Transferases to Study Their Catalytic Properties
Abstract : A number of active site mutants of human Alpha class glutathione transferase A1-1 (hGST A1-1) were made and characterized to determine the structural determinants for alkenal activity. The choice of mutations was based on primary structure alignments of hGST A1-1 and the Alpha class enzyme with the highest alkenal activity, hGST A4-4, from three different species and crystal structure comparisons between the human enzymes.
