  1. 11. Generalized Vandermonde matrices and determinants in electromagnetic compatibility

    Author : Karl Lundengård; Sergei Silvestrov; Dietrich von Rosen; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Matrices whose rows (or columns) consists of monomials of sequential powers are called Vandermonde matrices and can be used to describe several useful concepts and have properties that can be helpful for solving many kinds of problems. In this thesis we will discuss this matrix and some of its properties as well as a generalization of it and how it can be applied to curve fitting discharge current for the purpose of ensuring electromagnetic compatibility. 2. 12. Mathematical Analysis of Forced Convective Flow Due to Stretching Sheet and Instabilities of Natural Convective Flow

    Author : Prashant G Metri; Sergei Silvestrov; Rebei Bel-Fdhila; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer theory; Heat and Mass transfer; Partial differential equations; Stretching sheet; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : The investigations presented in the thesis are theoretical studies of magnetohydrodynamic flows, heat and mass transfer in Newtonian/non-Newtonian cooling liquids, due to horizontal/vertical stretching sheet. The theoretical studies include the effect of magnetic field, uniform and non-uniform heat source/sink (flow and temperature dependent heat source/sink) effects. READ MORE

  3. 13. Mathematical Tools Applied in Computational Electromagnetics for a Biomedical Application and Antenna Analysis

    Author : Farid Monsefi; Sergei Silvestrov; Magnus Otterskog; Linus Carlsson; Jean-Pierre Bérenger; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : To ensure a high level of safety and reliability of electronic/electric systems EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) tests together with computational techniques are used. In this thesis, mathematical modeling and computational electromagnetics are applied to mainly two case studies. READ MORE

  4. 14. Extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics

    Author : Asaph Keikara Muhumuza; Sergei Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Karl Lundengård; Milica Rancic; Olga Liivapuu; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on various surfaces, their applications in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics. Some mathematical models that employ these extreme points such as curve fitting, data smoothing, experimental design, electrostatics, risk control in finance and method for finding the extreme points on certain surfaces are demonstrated. 5. 15. Asset Pricing Models with Stochastic Volatility

    Author : Jean-Paul Murara; Sergei Silvestrov; George Fodor; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Asset pricing modeling is a wide range area of research in Financial Engineering. In this thesis, which consists of an introduction, three papers and appendices; we deal with asset pricing models with stochastic volatility. Here stochastic volatility modeling includes diffusion models and regime-switching models. READ MORE
