1. Serological markers in subclinical and clinical gluten enteropathy
Abstract : An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has been developed for the measurement of anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA), thereby providing a practical and cheap assay for use in the diagnosis of coeliac disease (CD). Since gliadin is a common food antigen for most people, a large group of apparently healthy blood donors (n=l866) was analysed, as well as children and adults with symptoms more or less suggesting CD. 2. Sexually transmitted infections: serological, microbiological and microscopical aspects
Abstract : The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) is high in the adult populations world-wide but varies between populations and time periods. Since a high proportion of infected individuals are asymptomatic, diagnostic approaches to reduce further transmission and complications are essential. READ MORE

3. Automated serological technique with special emphasis on a solid phase test for red cell antibody detection in routine blood banking
Abstract : Automated serological techniques for erythrocyte antigen typing and antibody screening are presented and evaluated in a larger number of samples and throughout routine processing. Both techniques are microplate-adapted with computerised sample identification, sample and reagent dispensing, and interpretation of results. READ MORE

4. Methods for detection of HIV-2/SIV infections
Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to develop and improve laboratory methods for detection of HIV-2 in infected humans and detection of HIV-2/SIV in experimentally infected cynomolgus monkeys. Early in the HIV epidemic no assays were commercially available for detection of HIV-2/SIV infections and laboratory testing often relied on cross-reactivity in the assays. READ MORE

5. Etiological risk factors and clinical characteristics of childhood non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Uganda
Abstract : Introduction: Incidence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) has increased greatly over time, especially in children. Improved diagnostic methods alone cannot explain this increase, especially the increase observed in sub-Saharan Africa, where diagnostic capabilities are low. READ MORE
