  1. 1. FoxF genes in development and disease

    Author : Seyed Ali Moussavi Nik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FOXF1; Sfrp1; LGR5 stem cells; Tgfb; Wnt signaling; ECM; Intact intestinal epithelium; Foxf2; ACDMPV;

    Abstract : Forkhead transcription factors of the FoxF group are important during embryonic de-velopment, and mutation of either of the members, Foxf1 and Foxf2, has fatal conse-quences. In this thesis, I present our recent findings about the mechanism of action of FoxF genes in development and disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic and epigenetic mechanisms in primary hyperparathyroidism

    Author : Luqman Sulaiman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by abnormally excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and elevated serum calcium. PHPT patients can develop a wide range of complications affecting many body organs such as the skeleton, kidneys and heart. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of midbrain dopaminergic neuron development by Wnts, sFRPs and bHLH proteins

    Author : Julianna M V Kele-Olovsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder. The main pathology is characterized by progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra leading to loss of striatal dopamine innervation. The knowledge about the fundamental mechanisms behind the degenerative process has been limited. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wnts in development : focus on midbrain

    Author : Emma Rakel Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Studies in the field of embryonic development reveal the temporal and spatial requirement of specific genes/proteins in the formation of a given tissue. The specific knowledge of which genes/proteins regulate development of the ventral midbrain (VM) provides a guideline for the in vitro differentiation of specific cell types therein, such as dopaminergic (DA) neurons. 5. 5. The Foxf2 gene in development and disease

    Author : Azadeh Reyahi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Foxf2; Pericyte; brain development; stroke;

    Abstract : The Foxf2 gene in development and disease Azadeh Reyahi Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg, Box 462, SE 405 30, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract In this thesis I present our recent data on the involvement and the mechanism of action of the forkhead transcription factor Foxf2 in development of the brain microvasculature, formation of the blood-brain barrier, control of the intestinal stem cell niche, and fusion of the secondary palate. The potential clinical signifi- cance of these findings is strengthened by a correlation between Foxf2 expres- sion and intestinal adenoma formation, and by association between genetic vari- ants in human FOXF2 and incident stroke.
