  1. 6. Simulations of turbulent boundary layers with suction and pressure gradients

    Author : Alexandra Bobke; Philipp Schlatter; Ramis Örlü; Ayse Gul Gungor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layers; near-wall turbulence; history effects; asymptotic suction boundary layers; large-eddy simulation;

    Abstract : The focus of the present licentiate thesis is on the effect of suction and pressure gradients on turbulent boundary-layer flows, which are investigated separately through performing numerical simulations.The first part aims at assessing history and development effects on adverse pressure-gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL). 2. 7. Constitutive Behaviour and Fracture of Adhesive Layers : Inverse Methods and Energetic Balance

    Author : Svante Alfredsson; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adhesive layer; constitutive behaviour; fracture; energy release rate; shear fracture; mode-mixity; experimental method; inverse solution; multi-material joints; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : In the automobile industry, current demands on reduced emissions with maintained or even increased crash worthiness, forces the industry to seek weight-reducing designs. The possibility to use lightweight materials is obviously attractive. At joints, these lightweight materials have to be connected to high-strength or low-cost materials. READ MORE

  3. 8. Wings, turbulent boundary layers and flow separation

    Author : Fermin Mallor; Philipp Schlatter; Ricardo Vinuesa; Ramis Örlü; Manuel García Villalba; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wings; turbulent boundary layers; adverse pressure gradients; flow separation; numerical simulations; wind-tunnel experiments; flow control.; Vingar; turbulenta gränsskikt; negativa tryckgradienter; avlösning; numeriska simuleringar; vindtunnel-experiment; flow control; Aerospace Engineering; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The present doctoral thesis investigates the turbulent flow developing around wing sections, focusing on the impact of adverse-pressure-gradient (APG) conditions on turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) and the physics of flow separation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to generate high-fidelity data sets and provide an in-depth analysis of the flow. READ MORE

  4. 9. Mixed mode loaded adhesive layers : from measurement of material data to analysis of structural behaviour

    Author : Jia Li Högberg; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adhesive layer; mixed mode testing; cohesive law; J-integral; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : In manufacturing of multi-material products, a joining method that is able to cost-effectively assemble components made of dissimilar and similar material, with irregular geometries, is optimal. As an alternative, adhesive bonding is in-creasingly adapted by the industry, which is also used in manufacturing of multi-phase materials. READ MORE

  5. 10. Thin Layers in Elastic Wave Propagation -Effective Modelling and Diffraction

    Author : Peter Bövik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geometrical Theory of Diffraction; elastic wave scattering; shear waves; Wienr-Hopf method; L-TV waves; applications;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the interest is focussed on the problem of effective modelling of thin interface layers for applications in elastic wave scattering. The layers are considered to be thin compared with wavelengths involved and it is shown that when all effects to lowest order in the layer thickness are included, we get boundary conditions (BCs) which have a number of nice features, including the one of implying that no scattering occurs when the layer has material parameters identical to the ones in the matrix medium.
