  1. 1. Undrained shear strength in clay slopes - Influence of stress conditions. A model and field test study

    Author : Hjördis Löfroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; preconsolidation pressure; piezocone test; slope; model test; consolidation; horizontal stress; clay; undrained shear strength; direct simple shear test; field vane test; field test;

    Abstract : To counteract natural hazards such as landslides, current methods for evaluation of soil properties as a mean for determining the safety level of natural slopes need to be refined. The empirical relationships used for estimation of the undrained shear strength from piezocone and field vane test are based on the stress conditions valid for horizontal ground and normally consolidated or slightly overconsolidated soil. 3. 3. The modified Iosipescu shear test for orthotropic materials

    Author : Niklas Melin; Jonas Neumeister; Gradin Per; KTH; []
    Keywords : composite; modified Iosipescu tet; shear test; strain field uniformity; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : AbstractThe Iosipescu shear test, also known as asymmetric four point bending of a V-notched beam,is frequently used for measuring in-plane shear properties of composites. The ASTM standard(ASTM D-5379-05) regulates how the test is to be performed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of deep excavations in soft clay on the immediate sourroundings-Analysis of the possibility to predict deformations and reactions against the retaining system

    Author : Anders Kullingsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MIT-S1; Sheet pile wall; Soil-structure interaction; Strain; Stress; Ground surface settlement; Finite element method; Case history; Shear test; Shear strength; Pore pressure; Analysis; Constitutive models; Plane strain; Elastoplasticity; Laboratory tests; Factor of safety; Stiffness; e-ADP; Earth pressure; Anisotropy; Soft Clay; Deep excavation; Retaining wall; Shear stress; Deformation;

    Abstract : When excavating in an urban environment, the evaluation of the magnitude and distribution of ground movements is an important part of the design process, since excessive movements can damage adjacent buildings and utilities. In order to minimize movement of the surrounding soil, a retaining wall support system is used for deep excavations to provide lateral support. READ MORE

  5. 5. Application of Fracture Mechanics to Concrete Bridges. Finite element analyses and experiments

    Author : Mario Plos; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reinforced concrete; reinforcement splice; full-scale test; shear failure; fracture mechanics; fatigue test; static test; concrete frame corner; non-linear finite element analysis; concrete bridge;

    Abstract : Material models based on fracture mechanics together with non-linear finite element analyses have been used in combination with experiments to study the behaviour of reinforced concrete bridges. The work covers two aspects of interest in the design of concrete bridges.* The shear behaviour was studied in full-scale tests on two highway bridges. READ MORE
