  1. 11. Double Inner-Shell Vacancies in Molecules

    Author : Dimitris Koulentianos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Molecular electronic states possessing a double core-vacancy, referred to as double-core-hole (DCH) states, were predicted more than thirty years ago, to have interesting properties, which would allow one to probe matter in a much more detailed way compared to conventional single core-vacancy techniques. Though DCH states are characterized by low cross-sections compared to the dominant single-core-hole (SCH) states, which implies experimental challenges, the development of third generation synchrotron radiation (SR) facilities and X-ray free electron lasers (XFEL), in combination with advanced spectroscopy techniques, resulted recently in a significant number of scientific works reporting on the observation of different types of DCH states. Abstract : Cerium dioxide, or ceria, is a chemically stable oxygen ion conducting material with a capacity to store and release oxygen, and is therefore extensively used in combustion catalysts. The Cu-Ce-O system has been identified as one of the most active catalysts for the combustion of carbon monoxide. READ MORE

  3. 13. Engineered core-shell nanoparticles for biomedical applications

    Author : Carmen Mihaela Vogt; Mamoun Muhammed; Alfonso Garcia-Bennett; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Functional materials; Funktionella material;

    Abstract : The necessity for synthesis of nanoparticles with well controlled size and morphology emerged with the development in recent years of novel advanced applications especially in biomedical related fields. These applications require nanoparticles with more complex architecture such as multifunctional nanoparticles (i.e. READ MORE

  4. 14. Effective Charges Near 56Ni and Production of Anti-Nuclei Studied with Heavy-Ion Reactions

    Author : Rickard du Rietz; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RDDS; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; PHENIX; RHIC; mirror nuclei; shell-model calculations; fusion-evaporation reactions; effective charges; anti-deuteron; Heavy-ion reactions; Fysicumarkivet A:000;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the research performed within two different research groups using heavy-ion induced nuclear reactions. They offer the opportunity to investigate different properties of nuclear matter. The results are based on measurements using a variety of different experimental techniques. READ MORE

  5. 15. Rigidity of the Doubly-Magic 100Sn Core

    Author : Matej Lipoglavsek; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in-beam gamma-ray spectrscopy; nuclear structure; fusion-evaporation reactions; nuclear shell model; quadrupole polarization charge; doubly-magic nucleus; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Lipoglavšek;

    Abstract : The doubly magic nucleus 100Sn represents a crucial test for the nuclear shell model, which is a widely used model for a quantitative description of nuclei. Excited states in 100Sn are experimentally not accessible with present day techniques, but it is possible to gain insight into its structure by studying the properties of excited states of neighboring nuclei.
