1. Power Estimation and Low Power CMOS Circuit Techniques
Abstract : The increasing power consumption due to the high integration rate of VLSI digital CMOS circuits has become a major concern. Many important design issues and parameters are strongly dependent on the power dissipation and the accuracy of its estimated value during the design exploration. READ MORE

2. Measurement and modelling of unbalanced magnetic pull in hydropower generators
Abstract : Hydropower research is often perceived to be an old and exhausted field of study but with ageing equipment and the need for more intermittent operation caused by an increased share of other renewable energy sources new challenges lie ahead. The main focus of this dissertation are the electromagnetic forces resulting from nonuniform air gap flux, whether it be caused by rotor eccentricity or a faulty field winding. 3. Generation and Applications of Picosecond Pulses in High-Capacity Fiber Optic Systems
Abstract : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses. 4. Broadband Receiver Electronic Circuits for Fiber-Optical Communication Systems
Abstract : The exponential growth of internet traffic drives datacenters to constantly improve their capacity. As the copper based network infrastructure is being replaced by fiber-optical interconnects, new industrial standards for higher datarates are required. READ MORE

5. Distributed Control of HVDC Transmission Grids
Abstract : Recent issues such as priority access of renewable resources recommended by European energy directives and increase the electricity trading among countries lead to new requirements on the operation and expansion of transmission grids. Since AC grid expansions are limited by legislative issues and long distance transmission capacity, there is a considerable attention drawn to application of HVDC transmission grids on top of, or in complement to, existing AC power systems.
