  1. 1. Impact of different interventions on cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Marta Vergara; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance training; Protein; Fast-food; Blueberries; Exercise; Glucose; Running; Cholesterol; Troponin T; Insulin sensitivity; Brown adipose tissue; Basal methabolic rate; Cold exposure; Quality of life; Primary health care; Diabetes mellitus type 2; MACE; Prospective studies; Risk factors; Cardiovascular diseases;

    Abstract : Obesity and related complications such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and cardiovascular events, are a growing major health problem worldwide. Achieving a negative energy balance by increasing physical activity in combination with reduced caloric intake, is the most common approach in weight reduction strategies, something that is difficult to maintain in the long term. 2. 2. Numerical study on multi-pantograph railway operation at high speed

    Author : Zhendong Liu; Sebastian Stichel; Jens Nielsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical study; pantograph-catenary system; multi-pantograph operation; dynamic behaviour; high-speed operation; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik;

    Abstract : Multi-pantograph operation allows several short electric multiple unit (EMU) trainsets to be coupled or decoupled to adapt to daily or seasonal passenger-flow variation. Although this is a convenient and efficient way to operate rolling stock and use railway infrastructure, pantographs significantly influence each other and even significantly change the dynamic behaviour of the system compared to single-pantograph operation in the same condition. 3. 3. EAL's boundary lubrication performance in hydro power plants

    Author : Jan Ukonsaari; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis concerns the possibility to change mineral based hydraulic fluid to environmentally adapted lubricants (EAL's) in water turbine applications from the point of view of boundary lubrication. A new test rig was designed to meet the conditions for a slow and/or intermittent motion journal bearing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cardiac effects of prolonged exercise

    Author : Anders Sahlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme; Exercise; Natriuretic Peptides; Troponin;

    Abstract : Long-distance running is growing in popularity. While moderate exercise unquestionably gives major health benefits, the effects of extreme physical exhaustion on cardiac function have been studied less. It has previously been observed that elevated cardiac biomarkers may be observed after exercise, the significance of which is not known. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of condition monitoring methods for system health assessment : health diagnostics and prognostics

    Author : Mats Rhen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Increasing interest in productivity, safety and environmental issues have highlighted the area of maintenance and reliability. The increasing cost of maintenance covers both preservation and sustainable exploitation of resources and awareness in maintaining equipment in a way to ensure return on investment both in the short and long run.
