  1. 1. Computational Studies of 2D Materials : Application to Energy Storage and Electron Transport in Nanoscale Devices

    Author : Vivekanand Shukla; Rajeev Ahuja; Anton Grigoriev; Sudip Chakraborty; Kristian Sommer Thygesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density functional theory; Non-equilibrium Green s function; 2D materials; Energy storage; Electron transport;

    Abstract : The field of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials provides a new platform for studying diverse physical phenomena that are scientifically interesting and relevant for technological applications. Novel applications in electronics and energy storage harness the unique electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of 2D materials for design of crucial components. READ MORE

  2. 2. Generation of magnetic fields in plasmas

    Author : Nitin Shukla; Gert Brodin; Dusan Jovanovic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Relativistic and non-relativistic plasma outflows are quite ubiquitous in astrophysical scenarios, as well as in laboratory plasmas. The propagation of relativistic and non- relativistic charged particle beams in background plasmas provides return currents in the opposite direction and interactions between the currents then drive several plasma instabilities involving the longitudinal (electrostatic instabilities) and trans- verse (electromagnetic instability) modes. 3. 3. Waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas

    Author : Shahid Ali; Padma Kant Shukla; Mattias Marklund; Jose Tito Mendonca; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum mechanical effects; dusty plasma; linear and nonlinear waves; instabilities; nonlinear wave interactions; density gradients; magnetoplasmas.; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Abstract : The study of waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas is of fundamental importance for understanding collective interactions in superdense astrophysical objects, in high intense laser-plasma/solid-matter interactions, in microelectronic devices and metallic nanostructures. In dense quantum plasmas, there are new pressure laws associated with the Fermi-Dirac distribution functions and new quantum forces associated with the quantum Bohm potential and the Bohr magnetization involving electron ½ spin. 4. 4. Object-plasma interaction in the vicinity of Enceladus

    Author : Jonas Olson; Svetlana Ratynskaia; Padma Shukla; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract :     The Cassini spacecraft orbits Saturn since 2004, carrying a multitude of instruments for studies of the plasma environment around the planet as well as the constituents of the ring system. Of particular interest to the present thesis is the large E ring, which consists mainly of water ice grains, smaller than a few micrometres, referred to as dust. READ MORE

  5. 5. System Level Techniques for Verification and Synchronization after Local Design Refinements

    Author : Tarvo Raudvere; Axel Jantsch; Sandeep Shukla; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic System Design; Refinement; Verification; Synchronization; Systems engineering; Systemteknik;

    Abstract : Today's advanced digital devices are enormously complex and incorporate many functions. In order to capture the system functionality and to be able to analyze the needs for a final implementation more efficiently, the entry point of the system development process is pushed to a higher level of abstraction.
