1. Fluxes and transformation of carbon in the Siberian shelf seas under changing environment
Abstract : The Arctic is especially vulnerable to the increased air temperature caused by emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, carbon dioxide being one of them. In this thesis, both fieldwork and modelling of the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (the Laptev Sea and the East Siberian Sea) have been carried out to investigate the carbon system in this region. 2. Carbon Emissions from Western Siberian Inland Waters
Abstract : Inland waters (i.e. rivers, streams, lakes, ponds) emit carbon (C) into the atmosphere. The magnitude of global inland water C emission has been estimated to equal the global ocean C sink, thus making inland waters an important component of the global C cycle. READ MORE

3. The immunoglobulin genes in an Actinopterygian fish, the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri)
Abstract : Characterization of the immunoglobulin (Ig) light (L) and heavy (H) chain genes from the Siberiansturgeon, Acipenser baeri, revealed an Ig structure simhar to the IgM elass of mammals. The serumforms of the sturgeon Ig are tetrameric and dimeric. READ MORE

4. Transport, degradation and burial of organic matter released from permafrost to the East Siberian Arctic Shelf
Abstract : Permafrost soils in the Arctic store large quantities of organic matter, roughly twice the amount of carbon that was present in the atmosphere before the industrial revolution. This freeze-locked carbon pool is susceptible to thawing caused by amplified global warming at high latitudes. READ MORE

5. Behaviour and life-history responses to chick provisioning under risk of nest predation
Abstract : This thesis examines risk management in breeding Siberian jays (Perisoreus infaustus), which is indigenous to the northern taiga. Parent behaviour and the nest are cryptic. A new nest is built each year. It is placed on spruce or pine branches close to the trunk and well insulated with lichens, feathers and reindeer hair. READ MORE
