  2. 2. The role of the thromboinflammatory response under hemolytic conditions : pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic inhibition

    Author : Alexandra Gerogianni; Per H. Nilsson; Camilla Mohlin; Tom Eirik Mollnes; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Mihály Józsi; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hemolysis; heme; thromboinflammation; biomaterials; complement inhibition; LVAD; IONPs; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : In blood circulation, the complement and the coagulation cascades, together with platelets and endothelial cells form a complex network of crosstalk. When dysregulated, these interactions can lead to inflammation in combination with thrombosis (thromboinflammation) and the manifestation of pathophysiological complications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Relation of nutritional status, immunity, hemoglobinopathy and falciparum malaria infection

    Author : Alice Nyakeriga; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Thomas Williams; Clara Menendez; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Iron deficiency; nutrition; anthropometric indexes; malaria; hemoglobinopathies; immunity; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : The interaction between nutritional status and malaria disease is complex and often controversial. Nutritional deficiencies (macro- or micro-nutrient) are thought to lead to malnutrition with subsequent susceptibility to malaria infection. On the other hand severe malaria or repeated malaria infections lead to malnutrition. READ MORE

  4. 4. Vitamin K-dependent protein S - studies of synthesis, structure and function

    Author : Sofia Somajo; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C4b-binding protein; coagulation; microparticles; protein C; protein S; structure; tissue factor pathway inhibitor;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four projects with the overall aim to investigate vitamin K-dependent protein S functions in relation to its structure. The anticoagulant functions of protein S can be divided in three: 1) cofactor for activated protein C (APC), 2) cofactor for tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and 3) APC and TFPI-independent anticoagulant functions.
