  1. 16. Partial Response and Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling

    Author : Fredrik Rusek; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telecommunication engineering; Signalbehandling; Signal processing; Partial Response Signaling; Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling; Digital Communications; Coding Theory; Telekommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Bandwidth efficiency is a key objective in the design of a digital communication system. Traditionally it is accomplished by increasing the constellation size of the signaling system. In this thesis alternative techniques are studied. Because the communication channel is continuous, so must the actual time signals be. READ MORE

  2. 17. Identification and Characterization of Proteins and MicroRNAs that Modulate Receptor Signaling, Vesicular Trafficking and Cell Migration in Vascular Cells

    Author : Johan Heldin; Johan Kreuger; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; cell migration; signaling; VEGF; FGD5; ExoC3L2; microRNA; RhoD; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Blood vessels deliver nutrients and oxygen to tissues. Importantly, the functions and growth of blood vessels are commonly altered in disease. The inside of all blood vessels are lined with endothelium, a thin specialized layer of endothelial cells that separate the blood from other tissues. READ MORE

  3. 18. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Author : Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 4. 19. On Nogo signaling regulation

    Author : Alexandra Trifunovski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nogo; Nogo receptor; regulation; neurotrophin; Lingo-1; p75NTR; Troy; synaptic plasticity;

    Abstract : As neuronal development enters its final stages, axon growth becomes restricted. This lack of regenerative capacity is partly due to the non-permissive environment of growth inhibitory proteins. Three such proteins, Nogo, OMgp and MAG bind to the same receptor, the Nogo receptor (NgR) and induce growth cone collapse and axon growth inhibition. READ MORE

  5. 20. Signaling via Orexin Receptors : A Pharmacological Study

    Author : Tomas Holmqvist; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Gunnar Flemström; Per Svenningsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; orexin; receptors; calcium; cAMP; adenylyl cyclases; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The orexin receptors are a pair of newly discovered G-protein coupled receptors which are activated by the neuropeptides orexins and play a role in sleep/vigilance, apetite/metabolism and neuroendocrine regulation. On a cellular level receptor activation results in, to name but a few effects, elevation of intracellular calcium and depolarisation. READ MORE
