  1. 1. Notch signalling in carcinogenesis : With special emphasis on T-cell lymphoma and colorectal cancer

    Author : Jonas Ungerbäck; Peter Söderkvist; Ola Hermanson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Notch signalling; T-cell lymphoma; colorectal cancer; Wnt signalling; transcription; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The Notch signalling pathway is an evolutionary conserved pathway, named after the Notch receptors, Notch1-4 in mammals, which upon cell-cell contact and ligand binding releases the intracellular domain (NICD). NICD translocates into the nucleus where it binds the transcriptional repressor RBP-Jk, which together with co-activators belonging to the Mastermind-like family of proteins form a transcriptional activation complex. 2. 2. β-adrenergic stimulation of VEGF gene expression : intracellular signalling pathways

    Author : Magnus J. Fredriksson; Georg Breier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Abstract : In the present study, the intracellular signalling pathway mediating ß-adrenergic stimulation of the expression of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene was investigated.VEGF is an activator of angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, and is considered to be a major regulator of both physiologically and pathologically related angiogenesis, as well as being essential for development of the vascular system. 3. 3. Cross-regulation between TGFβ/BMP Signalling and the metabolic LKB1 pathway

    Author : Erna Raja; Aristidis Moustakas; Tomi Mäkelä; Uppsala University Faculty of Medicine Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell signalling; TGFbeta; BMP; LKB1; AMPK; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Cell signalling determines physiological responses to many cellular stimuli and environmental changes. The transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)/bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling pathways begin by binding of ligand to the heterodimeric receptor complex, followed by activation of Smads that translocate to the nucleus to regulate transcription of genes that further mediate cellular physiology. 4. 4. Injury-Induced Signalling in Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells

    Author : Sara Moses; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GAG; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi; proteoglycan; osteopontin; ERK; MAPK; signalling; smooth muscle cell; injury;

    Abstract : The vascular wall is an active, elastic and integrated organ made up of cellular and extracellular matrix (ECM) components. It is not a static organ; the components dynamically change and reorganize in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. Vascular injury induces a complex healing process, analogous to generalised wound healing. READ MORE

  5. 5. Insulin signalling in human adipocytes : mechanisms of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes

    Author : Anna Danielsson; Peter Strålfors; Fredrik Nyström; Lena Stensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocytes; type 2 diabetes; insulin; insulin resistance; insulin signalling; phosphorylation; insulin receptor substrate 1; feedback control; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Prevalensen av fetma ökar drastiskt i stora delar av världen och utgör en stor riskfaktor för att utveckla insulinresistens och typ 2 diabetes. Fettväven kan bli mycket stor om för mycket energi tas upp av kroppen. READ MORE
