  2. 2. Application of Virtual Reality in the study of Human Behavior in Fire : Pursuing realistic behavior in evacuation experiments

    Author : Silvia Arias; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Virtual Reality; behavioral realism; fire evacuation; VR experiments;

    Abstract : Virtual Reality (VR) experiments are used to study human behavior in fire because they allow simulation of fire events with relatively low risks to the participants, while maintaining high levels of experimental control. Manystudies have used VR experiments to explore aspects of the human response to fire threats, but VR experiments as a research method are yet to be subjected to a systematic process of validation. Abstract : The epithelial lining of the gut must allow immediate contact with beneficial components as nutrients and normal microflora. At the same time it runs the constant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes and noxious agents. READ MORE

  5. 5. Candidate genes and the dopamine system : possible implications in complex neurological and psychiatric disease

    Author : Silvia Buervenich; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Genetic; linkage; association; dopamine; Parkinsons disease; schizophrenia; bipolar disease; retinoid; aldehyde; toxicity.;

    Abstract : The mesencephalic dopamine (DA) system is strongly involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinsons disease (PD), where symptoms occur after the loss of the vast majority of DA neurons. An involvement of this system also in schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disease (BD) is suggested by the fact that DA receptor antagonists are among the most potent drugs in clinical use for the treatment of these conditions.
