  1. 1. Computer Simulations of Simple Liquids with Tetrahedral Local Order : the Supercooled Liquid, Solids and Phase Transitions

    Author : Måns Elenius; Mikhail Dzugutov; Jonathan Doye; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Simple liquids; glasses; liquid-glass transition; supercooled liquids; tetrahedral liquids; phase transitions; quasicrystals; molecular dynamics; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Liquid physics; Vätskefysik; numerisk analys; Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : The understanding of complex condensed matter systems is an area of intense study. In this thesis, some properties of simple liquids with strong preference for tetrahedral local ordering are explored. These liquids are amenable to supercooling, and give complex crystalline structures on eventual crystallisation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring The Versatility Of Ionic Liquids : From fundamental understanding to materials inspired from ionic liquids

    Author : Olivier Renier; Anja-Verena Mudring; Lydie Viau; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Ionic liquids (ILs) have gained popularity as “green” and safe replacements for conventional organic solvents. They are defined as ionic salts displaying a melting point below 100 °C. Some of their unique characteristics also include negligible vapour pressure, good electrical conductivity as well as good thermal and chemical stability. READ MORE

    Abstract : Soft matter, here, liquids and polymers, have adaptability to a surrounding geometry. They intrinsically have advantageous characteristics from a mechanical perspective, such as flowing and wetting on surrounding surfaces, giving compliant, conformal and deformable behavior. Abstract : Room Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs) are organic salts that melt below 100 degrees Celsius. The advantages of RTILs, such as high ionic concentrations and low melting points, promote several potential applications. For instance, RTILs could be utilized in manufacturing energy storage devices, and as efficient solvents. READ MORE
