  1. 1. Embodied simulation as off-line representation

    Author : Henrik Svensson; Tom Ziemke; Germund Hesslow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embodied cognition; Simulation theories; Emulation; Forward models; Perception; Action; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Teknik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis argues that a key to understanding the embodiment of cognition is the “sharing” of neural mechanisms between sensorimotor processes and higher-level cognitive processes as described by simulation theories. Simulation theories explain higher-level cognition as (partial) simulations or emulations of sensorimotor processes through the re-activation of neural circuitry also active in bodily perception, action, and emotion. 2. 2. Simulation and Experimental Methods for Characterization of Nonlinear Mechanical Systems

    Author : Martin Magnevall; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear structural dynamics; simulation; system characterization; experimental techniques; experimental methods;

    Abstract : Trial and error and the use of highly time-consuming methods are often necessary for investigation and characterization of nonlinear systems. However, for the rather common case where a nonlinear system has linear relations between many of its degrees of freedom there are opportunities for more efficient approaches. READ MORE

  3. 3. Identification and Simulation Methods for Nonlinear Mechanical Systems Subjected to Stochastic Excitation

    Author : Andreas Josefsson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear structural dynamics; system identification; simulation; non-deterministic excitation; zero-memory nonlinear systems; wave power engineering;

    Abstract : With an ongoing desire to improve product performance, in combination with the continuously growing complexity of engineering structures, there is a need for well-tested and reliable engineering tools that can aid the decision making and facilitate an efficient and effective product development. The technical assessment of the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems often relies on linear analysis techniques which are well developed and generally accepted. READ MORE

  4. 4. Intentionality and Intersubjectivity

    Author : Jan Almäng; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; analogical theories; body schema; embodiment; intentionality; intersubjectivity; other minds; simulation theory; theory theory; Dretske; Fodor; Gibson; Husserl; Meltzoff; Merleau-Ponty; Nichols; Stich; Strawson.;

    Abstract : This is a dissertation about the problem of other minds. Its point of departure is the modern philosophical and cognitive-scientific discussion of our attribution of mental states to others, in particular as it is conceived of within the so-called theory theory. READ MORE

  5. 5. Generation of synthesis gas for fuels and chemicals production

    Author : Per Tunå; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Synthetic fuels and chemicals; gasification; gas conditioning; simulation; tar-cracking;

    Abstract : Many scientists believe that the oil production will peak in the near future, if the peak has not already occurred. Peak oil theories and uncertain future oil deliveries have stimulated interest in alternative sources of fuel and chemicals. READ MORE
