  1. 1. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces

    Author : Reimar Spohr; Lars Westerberg; Lars Montelius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion track; single ion; real time; phase detection; conductometric cell; conductometry; electro replication; microtechnology; nanotechnology; surfactant; self organization; GMR; magnetic; sensor technology; hydrophobic; tilted texture.; Physics; Fysik; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards Single-Ion Detection and Single-Photon Storage in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals

    Author : Mohammed Alqedra; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Single-ion detection; microcavities; quantum memory; rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Alqedra;

    Abstract : Solid materials doped with rare-earth ions are considered an attractive platform for quantum information applications. One of the main reasons for this is the exceptionally long optical and hyperfine coherence times of the 4fn states, due to the shielding provided by the outer lying 5s and 5p electrons. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards single Ce ion detection in a bulk crystal for the development of a single-ion qubit readout scheme

    Author : Ying Yan; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Yan; Ultra-violet laser spectroscopy; Single ion detection; Rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Quantum computing; Laser stabilisation;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis was concerned with investigating the relevant spectroscopic properties of Ce ions randomly doped in an Y2SiO5 crystal at low temperatures (around 4 K), in order to develop a technique and an experimental set-up to detect the fluorescence photons emitted by a single Ce ion. The aim of the work was to determine whether a single Ce ion (referred to as the readout ion) can be used as a local probe to sense the quantum state of a neighbouring single-ion qubit via a state-selective interaction between the readout and qubit ion. 4. 4. Applications of Ion Beam Methods in Silicide/Si and Silicide/GaAs Nanometre Structures

    Author : Yanwen Zhang; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phase formation; Nanometre structures; silicide; detection efficiency; Ion Beam Analysis; Ion Beam Synthesis; Time-of-Flight Energy Elastic Recoil Detection ToF-E ERD ; implantation; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Zhang; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Detla E-E ERD;

    Abstract : Ion beam methods are used to analyse material (Ion Beam Analysis, IBA) and to modify the target (Ion Beam Modification of Materials, IBMM). In this thesis, ion beams have been used in various IBA techniques to investigate the surface nanometre structures, and also in an ion beam synthesis (IBS) technique to form thin films and to modify material properties. Abstract : Silicon nanowires (SiNW) are in the spotlight for a few years in the research community as a good candidate for biosensing applications. This is attributed to their small dimensions in nanometer scale that offers high sensitivity, label-free detection and at the same time utilizing small amount of sample. READ MORE
