  1. 21. Spatial variation of dissolved organic carbon along streams in Swedish boreal catchments

    Author : Johan Temnerud; Kevin Bishop; Bert Allard; Rolf Vogt; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; spatial variation of stream water chemistry; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Denna avhandling behandlar den småskaliga rumsliga variationen av löst organiskt kol (DOC, engelsk term: dissolved organic carbon), dess koncentration, masstransport och karaktär, i bäckar inom två barrskogsbeklädda avrinningsområden (delavrinningsområden 0,01-78 km²). Provtagningen gjordes uppströms och nedströms varje bäckförgrening under sommarbasflöde. READ MORE

  2. 22. Drivers of increasing iron concentrations in freshwaters

    Author : Caroline Björnerås; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Järn; Akvatisk ekologi; Biogeokemi; Brunifiering; Iron; Freshwaters; Biogeochemistry; Brownification; Iron biogeochemistry; Browning; Freshwaters;

    Abstract : Iron (Fe) concentrations are increasing in freshwaters (lakes and streams) in Sweden, as well as in other regions in northern Europe. Together with increasing concentrations of organic matter, Fe is contributing to the ongoing browning of freshwaters, which may have serious ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem services. 3. 23. Lake Hydrodynamics and Pollution Transport under Climate Change : The Case of Lake Victoria

    Author : Seema Paul; Henrik Ernstson; Zahra Kalantari; Abhijit Mukherjee; KTH; []

    Abstract : A very small part of the total earth’s water is freshwater (only 2.5 %). Unfortunately, due to climate change and pervasive manmade activities, surface freshwater quality in many places of the world has become degraded. READ MORE

  4. 24. The palaeolimnological record of regime shifts in lakes in response to climate change

    Author : Linda Randsalu Wendrup; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeolimnology; regime shifts; thresholds; alternative stable states; climate change; ecosystem dynamics; diatoms; hydrocarbons; monitoring; lake sediments; shallow lakes; 8.2 ka event;

    Abstract : Regime shifts in lake ecosystems can occur in response to both abrupt and continuous climate change, and the imprints they leave in palaeolimnological records allow us to investigate and better understand patterns and processes governing ecological changes on geological time scales. This thesis aims at investigating palaeolimnological records of regime shifts in lakes during the Holocene to explore how lake ecosystems responded to climate changes and anthropogenic activities and to identify thresholds or tipping points that produced regime shifts. 5. 25. Terrestrial Si dynamics in the Arctic: a study on biotic and abiotic controls

    Author : Hanna Alfredsson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Silicon is the next most abundant element in the Earth’s crust and its biogeochemical cycle is linked with that of carbon. Further, silicon is a beneficial nutrient for plants in terrestrial ecosystems and a key nutrient for diatoms in aquatic ecosystems. READ MORE
