  1. 6. Molecular characterization of the Ro52 autoantigen and its disease related epitopes

    Author : Lars Ottosson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Ro52; Sjögren s syndrome; autoantibodies; congenital heart block; molecular characterization; TRIM; RBCC; Zn2 ;

    Abstract : The presence of high titers of autoantibodies in patient sera is characteristic for the autoimmune disorder Sjögren s syndrome. The major targets for these autoantibodies are three intracellular proteins Ro52, Ro60 and La. It is still unclear why these proteins become targets for the immune system, and how this autoreactivity is triggered. READ MORE

  2. 7. Collagenous colitis. Epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation and associated autoimmune disorders

    Author : Lina Vigren; Gastroenterologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; collagenous colitis; epidemiology; inflammatory bowel disease; lymphocytic colitis; microscopic colitis; smoking;

    Abstract : Collagenous colitis (CC) affects middle-aged women and results in chronic watery non-bloody diarrhoea. The incidence of CC has increased but has never been determined in southern Sweden. During the period 2001-2010 the mean annual incidence was stable; 5.4/105 (median age 71 years). READ MORE

  3. 8. On Minor Salivary Gland Secretion

    Author : Lars Eliasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; age; dental plaque pH; dentures; gender; health; IgA; medication; minor salivary glands; oral dryness; saliva; salivary secretion rate;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this series of studies has been to examine palatal, buccal and labial minor salivary gland secretions in relation to age and gender and other factors and conditions that could have effects on the saliva. Further aims were to analyze minor salivary gland secretions in relation to feelings of oral dryness and dental plaque pH. READ MORE

  4. 9. Immunological studies on anca-associated vasculitis with special reference to T cell activation

    Author : Marta Christensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the role of T cells in ANCA-associated vasculitis. We initially investigated activation markers on T cells in patients with Wegener's granulomatosis (WG), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and renal limited disease (RLD) and found increased expression indicating continuous activation despite clinical remission. 5. 10. LXR and aromatase knock-out mice : animal models providing insight into human diseases

    Author : Hyun-Jin Kim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In our characterization of mouse strains carrying mutations in nuclear receptor and aromatase genes we have found phenotypes which resemble four human diseases: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Sjögren s syndrome (SS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The work in this thesis was designed to understand the roles of LXRalpha, LXRbeta and aromatase in development of these diseases and to investigate whether these animal models help us (1) to understand the etiology of the corresponding human diseases and (2) to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of these diseases.
