  1. 11. Factors in secondary prevention subsequent to distal radius fracture : Focus on physical function, co-morbidity, bone mineral density and health-related quality of life

    Author : Helena Nordvall; Jack Lysholm; Gunnevi Sundelin; Margareta Möller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; distal radius fracture; bone mineral density BMD ; functional tests; mortality; morbidity; the SF-36; fall diary; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : In Sweden approximately 25000 distal radius fractures occur annually, which is 37 % of all fractures related to osteoporosis. In this thesis, risk factors for osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD) and health-related quality of life (the SF-36) were compared in patients who suffered a distal radius fracture after low energy trauma with a control group matched on the basis of age, gender, and municipality of residence. 2. 12. Seated postural reactions to mechanical shocks : laboratory studies with relevance for risk assessment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders among drivers

    Author : Tobias Stenlund; Börje Rehn; Ronnie Lundström; Ola Lindroos; Fredrik Öhberg; Rolf Moe-Nilssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Postural balance; Posture; Electromyography; Musculoskeletal pain; Whole-body vibration; Reliability; Kinematics; Biomechanics; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : Professional drivers of off-road vehicles, driving on irregular terrain such as in forestry, agriculture and mining, are exposed to whole-body vibration and mechanical shocks. These driver groups have reported severe musculoskeletal problems in the spine, but the association to seated postural reactions is not fully understood. READ MORE

  3. 13. Motor control of the knee : kinematic and EMG studies of healthy individuals and people with patellofemoral pain

    Author : Ann-Katrin Stensdotter; Charlotte Häger-Ross; Gunnevi Sundelin; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kinematics; Kinetic chain tasks; Knee; Motor Control; Muscle activity; Patellofemoral pain; Unpredictable perturbations; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is believed to be associated with deficits in coordination between the different heads of the quadriceps muscle; however, considerable debate exists in the literature regarding the presence of such a deficit. Discrepancies between studies may be explained by differences in experimental tasks, such as whether the task is performed with open (OKC) or closed kinetic chain (CKC), or whether the activity is voluntary or triggered. 4. 14. Neck pain in women : effect of tailored treatment and impact of work environment

    Author : Åsa Svedmark; Martin Björklund; Charlotte Häger; Jens Wahlström; Ottar Vasseljen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neck pain; neck disability; treatment; work exposure; stress; physiotherapy; fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Introduction: Musculoskeletal pain is a common problem in the working population. In Sweden, 40% of women and 30% of men report suffering from neck and shoulder pain weekly. The underlying cause for neck pain is often not known and the treatment is commonly guided by the individual’s symptoms. READ MORE

  5. 15. Hand function in children and in persons with neurological disorders : aspects of movement control and evaluation of measurements

    Author : Elisabeth Svensson; Charlotte Häger-Ross; Birgitta Lindmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebellum; disability; hand function; hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies; latency; motor control; reactive control; reproducibility; sensation; strength; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Hand function is of great importance in the many daily activities that require well-coordinated hand and arm movements. Measurement of hand function is an essential element in the rehabilitation process, in order to facilitate medical diagnosis and determine developmental stages, functional levels, and the efficacy of treatment interventions.
