  1. 1. Skin circulation measured by fluorescein flowmetry

    Author : Eduardo Patricio Proaño Romero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skin circulation;

    Abstract : Fluorescein flowmetry (FF) is an indicator dilution technique using sodium fluorescein as an indicator. If the tissue is illuminated with U-V light or blue light, after a bolus injection of the dye, fluorescence is seen in the tissue, and can be measured either photographically or by the video technique. 2. 2. Nitric oxide : An ally in extracorporeal circulation?

    Author : Vilyam Melki; Jan Borowiec; Örjan Friberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Simulated extracorporeal circulation; Inflammation; Nitric oxide; Leukocyte activation; Staphylococcus aureus; Glyceryl trinitrate; Postoperative infection; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : Many complications associated with heart surgery are due to the negative effects of extracorporeal circulation (ECC). Some of these complications may be attributed to ECC-induced activation of inflammation and coagulation pathways. READ MORE

  3. 3. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging : methodology and skin applications

    Author : Karin Wårdell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Over the last decade a number of emerging technologies have become available for the non-invasive study of skin anatomy and physiology. In this thesis, a method for mapping tissue perfusion based on the laser Doppler technique is presented together with some of the associated experimental and clinical applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diabetic skin microangiopathy : studies on pathogenesis and treatment

    Author : Majid Kalani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes mellitus; chronic foot ulcers; skin microcirculation; peripheral arterial occlusive disease; blood coagulation; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel structure; low molecular weight heparin; dalteparin.;

    Abstract : Background: Most of late diabetic complications have their basis in a disturbed microcirculation, i.e. diabetic microangiopathy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Systemic effects of occupational exposure to arsenic : with special reference to peripheral circulation and nerve function

    Author : Birgitta Json Lagerkvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arsenic toxicity; Cold-induced vasospasm; Finger systolic pressure; Nerve conduction velocity; Occupational exposure; Raynaud s phenomenon; Serotonin antagonist;

    Abstract : Smelter workers who were exposed to air-borne arsenic for a mean of 23 years, and age-matched referents, were examined with clinical, physiological, and neurophysiological methods. Exposure to arsenic in workroom air was estimated to have been around the Swedish occupational limits, which were 500 yg/m before 1975 and 50 yg/ra thereafter. READ MORE
