  1. 1. Extraction of logging residues for bioenergy : effects of operational methods on fuel quality and biomass losses in the forest

    Author : Bengt Nilsson; Johan Bergh; Gudmund Vollbrecht; Rolf Björheden; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest fuel; Storage; Fraction composition; Needles; Defoliation; Moisture content; Nutrients; Nitrogen; Norway spruce; Picea abies; Skogsbränsle; Lagring; Fraktionsfördelning; Barr; Avbarrning; Fukthalt; Näringsämnen; Kväve; Gran; Picea abies; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : Wood products play a key role in the transformation to a more sustainable society based on renewable bio-based resources, together with the positive effects on climate mitigation by replacing fossil fuels. However, to increase the use of forest fuel in practice it is important to understand the effects of handling and storage on its quality and removal of nutrients from the forest. READ MORE

  2. 2. Co-firing animal waste, sludge, residue wood, peat and forest fuels in a 50MWth CFB boiler : ash transformation, availability and process improvements

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Co-combustion; animal waste; peat; waste wood; forest residues; industrial sludge; limestone; CFB boiler; ash transformation; corrosion; erosion; ash and deposit characteristics; deposit buildup; boiler failures; availability; sulfation; boiler design; boiler conversion; waste derived fuels; large scale; Samförbränning; animaliskt avfall; torv; returträ; skogsbränsle; reningsslam; askomvandling; korrotion; erosion; ask- och beläggnings-karaktäristik; beläggningstillväxt; tillgänglighet; sulfatisering; panndesign; pannkonvertering; avfallsderiverade bränslen; storskalig;

    Abstract : The direct variable costs for heat and electricity production based on solid biomass fuel combustion is approximately 3-5 times lower than the costs in a fossil fuel-oil based boiler in Sweden. In addition waste derived biomass fuels are typically much cheaper than biomass not classified as waste. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Systems View of Advancements in Biomass Supply Chains

    Author : Johanna Enström; Aron Larsson; Leif Olsson; Lars Eliasson; Anders Eriksson; Daniel Nilsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forestry logistics; Supply Chain Management; Discrete Event Simulation; Forest fuel;

    Abstract : Forest fuel is an important source of energy with potential for increased use in the Nordic countries. Profitable forest operations are dependent on logistics as the forest is a natural resource with varying conditions over widespread areas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Supply chain optimization in the forest industry

    Author : Helene Gunnarsson Lidestam; Mikael Rönnqvist; Jan Lundgren; Eldon Gunn; Linköpings universitet; []

    Author : Johan Eckdahl; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boreal forest wildfire; carbon emissions; nutrient cycling; nitrogen; microbial community; plant community; climate chnge; secondary succession; Sweden; Fennoscandia; biodiversity; boreal skogsbrand; koldioxiduttsläpp; näringscykling; kväve; mirkobiellt samhälle; växtsamhälle; klimatförändring; sekundär succession; sverige; Fennoskandien; biologisk mångfald;

    Abstract : The boreal region contains 40% of the earth’s carbon (C) that is stored in vegetation and soils with its forests accounting for almost 30% of the terrestrial C sink. Boreal forests are experiencing some of the most rapid rates of climatic warming and increases in fire activity, threatening to release large amounts of their dense C reserves to the atmosphere.
