1. Impact of Drinking Water Treatment and Pipe Biofilms on Bacterial Dynamics in the Distribution System
Abstract : This thesis addresses drinking water quality and microbiology in full-scale drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs). It examines how UV irradiation and slow sand filters (SSFs) alter the water bacteriome, and how the biofilm in the DWDS affects the drinking water quality. READ MORE

2. ATRIOVENTRICULAR CONDUCTION in Patients with Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardias
Abstract : This thesis concerns retrospective and prospective studies of the atrioventricular (AV) conduction properties in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The objectives of the retrospective studies were to further delineate the sex distribution in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) and AV nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and to determine the underlying mechanisms of the differences in sex distribution, to investigate the relationship between the conduction properties of normal and accessory AV pathway, and to evaluate their conduction properties with respect to accessory pathway location. 3. Cross transfer effects after unilateral muscle overuse : an experimental animal study about alterations in the morphology and the tachykinin system of muscles
Abstract : Unilateral exercise can produce certain contralateral strength effects. Deleterious events can be cross-transferred as well, as illustrated by a strict symmetry in some chronic inflammatory diseases. READ MORE

4. Extraocular Muscles in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons characterized by muscle paralysis and death within 3-5 years of onset. However, due to unknown mechanisms, the extraocular muscles (EOMs) remain remarkably unaffected. READ MORE

5. A High-end Reconfigurable Computation Platform for Particle Physics Experiments
Abstract : Modern nuclear and particle physics experiments run at a very high reaction rate and are able to deliver a data rate of up to hundred GBytes/s. This data rate is far beyond the storage and on-line analysis capability. Fortunately physicists have only interest in a very small proportion among the huge amounts of data. READ MORE
