  1. 1. Small biotopes in agricultural landscapes: importance for vascular plants and effects of management

    Author : Therese Irminger Street; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small biotopes; incidental habitat; vascular plants; woody vegetation; grassland species; resource provisioning; species richness; habitat specificity; non-crop habitat; landscape complexity; heterogeneity; local management; agri-environment scheme;

    Abstract : As a consequence of agricultural intensification, large areas of non-crop habitat have been lost and farmland biodiversity has declined. Previous studies have shown that the extent of non-crop habitat influences farmland biodiversity, but the relative importance of different habitat types is less well known and the contribution of small incidental habitats to landscape-scale species richness is not fully understood. 2. 2. Small biotopes: Landscape and management effects on pollinators

    Author : Annika Söderman; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Agri-environmnetal scheme; management; agriculture; landscape complexity; heterogeneity; landscape scale; mall biotopes; field boundaries; pollinating insects; pollination; bumblebees; solitary bees; hoverflies;

    Abstract : The intensification of agriculture during the second half of the twentieth century, has caused sever declines of farmland biodiversity, where loss of semi-natural habitats is one of the major drivers. To halt further loss of habitat and biodiversity, agri-environmental schemes (AES) are used to compensate farmers to use methods less harmful to the environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Silviculture adapted to multiple goals in Swedish small scale forestry : methods for choosing practices, biotopes, stands and events

    Author : Roland Hörnfeldt; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : During recent decades a new type of private forest owner has appeared in Sweden, with forestry goals other than simply generating money from wood production; these goals include hunting, maintaining biodiversity, cultural aspects and historical values. However, multiple goals often conflict with each other, leading to a problem of finding practices that can deliver several goals at the same time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Monitoring biodiversity in cultural landscapes: development of remote sensing- and GIS-based methods

    Author : Jonas Dalmayne; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : Remote sensing; statistical modeling; spatial scales; partial least squares; support vector machines; grazed grasslands; LULC; HySpex; Worldview-2; Landsat; heterogeneity; landscape complexity; plant species diversity;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I explore the relationships between structural and compositional landscape properties, and species diversity, using remotely sensed data on a variety of spatial scales. The thesis shows that increased landscape heterogeneity, measured using environmental and spectral variables that were used both separately and combined, is generally positively related to plant species richness.
