Abstract : The objectives of the thesis was to explore partner violence during pregnancy in Nicaragua – its prevalence and characteristics, how women perceive, understand and cope with it, its association with specific child outcomes such as low birth weight (LBW), small for gestational age (SGA) and preterm birth, and possible pathways. Abstract : SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is defined as an infant who has died suddenly and its cause "remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history". An infant who during sleep has been found apneic, pale or cyanotic and limp, and has required either vigorous stimulation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is defined to have been affected of an Apparent Life Threatening Event (ALTE).
