  1. 6. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Author : Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Abstract : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes. 2. 7. Array based genetic profiling of bone and soft tissue tumors

    Author : Karolin Hansén Nord; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, genetic alterations in bone and soft tissue tumors have been investigated with the purpose of identifying regions of importance for tumor development, diagnosis and prognosis. This has primarily been performed by array comparative genomic hybridization analysis and gene expression profiling of cytogenetically analyzed tumors. READ MORE

  3. 8. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer

    Author : Kajsa Ericson Lindquist; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Multiple Tumors; Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer; Cytology; Cohort study; Population based; Familial Risk of Cancer; Immunohistochemistry; MSH2; MSH6; MLH1; Microsatellite Instability; Soft Tissue Sarcomas; Cancer of the Upper Urinary Tract; Cancer of the Small Intestine; Colorectal Cancer;

    Abstract : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected. 4. 9. CYTOGENETIC AND MOLECULAR GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF LIPOMAS

    Author : Hammurabi Bartuma; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; soft tissue tumors; adipocytic tumors; conventional lipomas; spindle cell lipoma; HMGA2; cytogenetic; molecular genetic; SNP array; GGE;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis was to study cytogenetic and molecular genetic aberrations in lipomas. For this purpose, chromosome banding analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), as well as high resolution single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)–arrays were used to identify recurrent chromosomal aberrations in lipomas. 5. 10. The clinical value of genetic analyses of bone and soft tissue tumors

    Author : Charles Walther; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Tumors of bone and soft tissue are common but only constitute 1 % of all malignant tumors. The malignant tumors are often difficult to diagnose due to their rarity and morphological resemblance between subtypes. This makes the diagnostic process challenging. READ MORE
